People Are Wrapping Cats in Blankets and Calling Them ‘Purritos’

Meet the “purrito” cat: It’s the purrfect internet trend you never knew you needed. Much like a tortilla wraps lovingly around beans, meat, and rice in a burrito, a blanket swaddles a sweet kitty just as snugly in a purrito. But instead of making you hungry like a burrito, a purrito will probably remind you of the swaddling of a human baby and just how safe, secure, and cozy a fur baby must feel. And of course, it’ll probably make you want to say, “Aww!”

It’s hard to say where the purrito cat trend first started, but it’s safe to say these cuddly photos and videos aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Just take one look at the Instagram page @youngestoldcatlady, run by a woman named Ashley who fosters kittens in Seattle. Her purrito cat photos and videos have become tremendously popular with her thousands of followers on the social media website — and all across the internet.

In one video, she writes in the caption, “‘Hi, what are the ingredients in a purrito?’ ‘Oh, let me show you!'” And we simply cannot look away until we see all four of those adorable paws underneath.

Another popular post on Ashley’s page is an image of not one, but two purrito cats together — with one who almost instantly fell asleep after being wrapped up. In this caption, Ashley asks us, “Why have one purrito, when you can have two?” We couldn’t agree more!

Ashley is not alone; there are many other folks out there using the hashtags #purrito, #purritocat, and #purritosofinstagram to show off some adorable felines getting seriously warm and fuzzy in their blanket tortillas.

Just try not to squeal when you see this little face, posted by Instagram user @edithandco, as a throwback image “for purritos and burritos.” Well, as much as we enjoy eating burritos (and that’s a _lot), we might love looking at these little purritos even more.

Looks like this little Russian Blue, posted by Instagram user @sambashaw_yoga, isn’t leaving that tortilla anytime soon.

This cuddle bug, posted by Instagram user @kelsey_fay7, is so relatable to us on those days we just can’t seem to get warm — and then, we finally do.

This little baby, posted by Instagram user @bottlebabyfosters, is really all the convincing we need to try this cat purrito experiment on our own cats at home — especially the little ones.
