Ben & Jerry’s Just Released Dog-Friendly Ice Cream to Spoil Your Pooch

Who doesn’t love digging into a fresh tub of Ben & Jerry’s? Whether you reach for Cherry Garcia, Chunky Monkey, Chubby Hubby, or any of the brand’s other creatively-named flavors, you know it will put a smile on your face. Now, our pooches can get in on the fun with their new line of dog-friendly ice cream!

The company announced the release of two Doggie Desserts inspired by a couple of their own office pups this week. Unsurprisingly, the press release included colorful descriptions of each flavor: “The frozen fun of peanut butter & pretzel swirls in ‘Pontch’s Mix’ or the cool creaminess of pumpkin and mini cookies in ‘Rosie’s Batch’ is just what a good dog needs after a raucous puppy playdate or a long walk with their human.”

Lindsay Bumps, a Ben & Jerry’s Global Marketing Specialist and certified veterinary technician, added, “We know our fans love their dogs and treat them like family. We created this product line so pups can enjoy something even better than belly rubs. Doggie Desserts are the sweetest treat they’ll ever put their paws on.”

Better than belly rubs? That sounds like a claim any dog would gladly volunteer to test out with their tastebuds. The company also explains on their FAQ page that although not all pooches are lactose intolerant, dairy can still cause some stomach aches. With that in mind, they created these treats with sunflower seed butter instead, which shouldn’t cause any tummy troubles.

The ingredients do include sugar, though, so it’s still important to keep moderation in mind — just like we should with our own spoonfuls of ice cream. (Psst: The doggie version is also perfectly safe for humans, in case you get tempted to sneak a bite away from your pup.)

The Doggie Desserts are being sold individually and in multipacks of 4 oz. tubs and will be in both pet stores and regular supermarkets alongside their regular products. You can head over to the Ben & Jerry’s website to see where you can snag some your area.
