Dierks Bentley Stops Concert to Show Fans How Military Families Should Be Treated
Watching a moving military family reunion never fails to bring tears to our eyes, but it’s rare that we would ever get to be a part of one. That said, most of us would no doubt jump at a chance to be on the homecoming committee if the opportunity ever presented itself. And that includes country singer Dierks Bentley!
During a meet and greet backstage, Bentley was talking with Corina Mendez and her two sons. Without warning, Mendez’s husband, Staff Sgt. Steven Mendez—who had been overseas for 10 months—draws back the curtains and reveals himself to his family.
While the two boys hug their father, Bentley quietly steps aside with his hands over his mouth. Overcome with emotion, he politely lets the family gather before joining the camera crew and staff in a hearty clap.
After 10 months apart, it’s not hard to understand why everyone in the room was emotional. But Bentley’s A-plus treatment of the Mendez family didn’t end there. During the concert at Save Mart Center in Fresno, CA, Bentley invited the Mendezes onstage.
“It has profoundly changed my life seeing what happened backstage,” Bentley said. “I just want to thank you for your service, for your sacrifice, God bless you.”
The crowd, aware of Staff Sgt. Mendez’s sacrifices, chanted “USA! USA!” while Bentley and the military dad swapped badges. Amazing!
It’s heartwarming to see the celebrities take time from their day to appreciate the sacrifices that our servicemen and women and their families make on a daily basis. Fortunately, Bentley isn’t the only country star who has something to say to military families. Some of Bentley’s contemporaries, like megastar Brad Paisley, have come out in support of our military veterans.
