Lisa Marie Presley Recorded a Duet With Her Dad Elvis, And the Result Is Gospel Magic

Tags:

It’s been nearly 41 years since Elvis died, but we still find such comfort and joy listening to his greatest hits. Now, his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, has recorded a heartwarming duet with her late father for a new compilation of the King’s gospel songs — and we can’t help falling in love with this powerful performance.

On August 10, RCA/Legacy Recordings released an upgraded version of “Where No One Stands Alone,” which originally appeared on Elvis’ 1967 LP How Great Thou Art. A lyric video of Lisa Marie singing backing vocals with old Elvis footage and family photos interspersed accompanies the track. The younger Presley even recorded her parts at a studio Elvis once used, which makes her rendition all the more special.

“It was a very powerful and moving experience to sing with my father,” Elvis’ daughter wrote in the album’s liner notes. “The lyrics speak to me and touch my soul. I’m certain that the lyrics spoke to my father in much the same way.”

“Recording with all that history, in rooms that Elvis recorded his most memorable tracks, with the singers that backed Elvis in his most powerful performances, and with the raw emotion of his daughter Lisa Marie singing ‘with’ her father in the same room her father sang in a memory that we will cherish for the rest of our lives, and beyond,” producer Joel Weinshanker told Rolling Stone.

Several well-known musicians also collaborated on the 14-track album, including Darlene Love; Dr. Cissy Houston; the Imperials’ Terry Blackwood, Armond Morales and Jim Murray; and the Stamps’ Donnie Sumner, Bill Baize, Ed Hill and Larry Strickland. “This was his favorite genre — no question about it,” Presley also wrote. “He seemed to be at his most passionate, and at peace while singing gospel. He would truly come alive — whether he was singing just for himself and me at home, or on stage in front of thousands of fans.”

Just hearing this father and daughter duet has left us all shook up — we can’t wait to hear the rest of the songs.
