How You Can Earn Extra Cash By Just ‘Checking Things Out’

If you have spare time and an eye for detail, you have all it takes to join WeGoLook’s community of independent contractors called on to go on “looks.” You can make anywhere from a quick extra $30 to $200 to confirm something in person, from checking on someone’s vacation property, to picking up documents on behalf of a non-local company, to checking out a car on CraigsList that an out-of-state buyer is interested in. Here’s how to get started:

To start, simply sign up at “You’ll have to complete our simple on-boarding process, which includes a criminal background check,” says WeGoLook’s Melissa J. Paige. Once accepted to the community, you’ll be able to review the opportunities in your area, accept, and perform the tasks that appeal to you and submit necessary info (photos, reports, etc.).

Tip: Are you a notary, a US veteran or a licensed adjuster? Those and other special skills and certifications can snag you specialized gigs and higher fees, so be sure to mention them when you sign up!

Do the prep work.

“Take the time to read and follow your instructions,” says veteran WeGoLook member and mom of four Collista Lewingdon. “They’re always clear; however, there may be many steps involved.” Have questions? Paige recommends contacting the site’s support immediately to clear up any confusion from the get-go. (Support is also available for real-time guidance either by phone or via the app during any task.)

Also smart: Many tasks involve taking photos — Lewingdon has taken photos of wrecked cars for insurance claims and of properties for potential real estate deals. That’s why she doesn’t leave home without a back-up battery pack: “Dead batteries can ruin your whole job, and it makes you look unprofessional,” she says.

Guarantee repeat gigs.

Lewingdon’s best customer-service tip? “Give as much detail as you can! The more information you give, the happier your client will be — and happy clients send more work!” In addition to providing lots of description in your written reports, she says it’s important to make sure your photos are clear, too.
