What Is ‘Glamping’? How to Enjoy the Great Outdoors With Style

Why go camping when you can go glamping? The stylish trend has been quietly growing in popularity in recent years, and for good reason. We can all appreciate a chance to enjoy the great outdoors — especially when we don’t have to “rough it” while doing so.
What is glamping?
Put simply, glamping is a fusion of glamour and camping in beautiful locations all around the world. But according to Glamping.com, the activity is much more than simply getting a nice-looking tent. A statement on the website reads: “Glamping is where stunning nature meets modern luxury. It’s a way to experience the untamed and completely unique parts of the world — without having to sacrifice creature comforts.”
If you’ve ever been camping before, you probably know that most camping gear errs on the more rustic side. That’s all fine and good if you’re going on a challenging adventure that involves mountain-climbing or long treks through the woods. But if you’re interested in a more leisurely adventure with your closest friends or maybe your daughter, there’s nothing wrong with enhancing your experience with a personal touch — especially if it’s a glamorous one.
Where should you go glamping?
When you make the decision to go glamping, the world is your oyster. Glamping can include setting up a beautiful yurt (a circular tent on a collapsible framework) in the mountains, cozying up in an eco-lodge, or perhaps even revisiting your youth in a treehouse built for grownups.
Glamping in the United States has become popular enough that many destinations designed specifically for glamping have opened up all across the country. As for the most luxurious, USA Today named the Sandy Pines Campground in Kennebunkport, Maine, Asheville Glamping in Asheville, North Carolina, Treetops of Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and the Conestoga Ranch in Garden City, Utah among its top picks.
But if those locations aren’t convenient or affordable enough, you can certainly set up your glamping station in a traditional campground — or any space where camping is permitted. Who knows? Other campers might be inspired to follow your lead!
Of course, if you want a truly personal glamping experience, you could set up your own “glampground” in your own backyard. At the end of the day, there’s no place like home.
Where to Buy Glamping Gear
Of course, you’ll need the traditional camping necessities, such as water, food, shelter, bedding, cooking supplies, cleaning supplies, and personal hygiene products. But after you have the basics ready, you have a lot of freedom with selecting your glamping gear. Luckily, a lot of glamping equipment is available for purchase on Amazon.
There are a wide variety of nice tents, such as the Ozark Trail 8 Person Yurt Tent ($117.20), Guide Gear Teepee Tent ($99.99, Amazon), and Dream House Yurt Bell Tent $359, Amazon).
For lounging inside or outside of your stylish shelter, the Intex Inflatable Empire Chair ($25.50), Inflatable Lounger Air Sofa, ($55.95, Amazon), and the Intex Ultra Daybed Inflatable Lounge ($47.94, Amazon) are possible options.
And it certainly couldn’t hurt to have a Happy Glamper Cosmetic Case ($8.59, Amazon) and a pretty Stainless Steel Wine Glass Tumbler ($14.99) on hand while you relax and enjoy all your beautiful surroundings — gear included.
Happy glamping!
