Prince William and Kate Surprise Health Workers Fighting COVID-19 With Phone Calls

The couple thanked them for their tireless work.

You’d be immensely surprised to get a call from Kate Middleton or Prince William at the best of times, but for a healthcare worker putting in tireless hours in this climate, we can’t even imagine the emotional reaction the feat would spark.

That’s exactly what happened to some of the people who have been putting in heroic efforts to help fight the spread of coronavirus on the frontline.

While Kate and William are currently holed up in Norfolk at their country residence Anmer Hall while the UK remains in a strict lockdown, the pair are still showing their support in sweet and surprising ways.

Taking to Instagram overnight, the pair’s official Instagram account shared a video of some of the NHS workers who are doing all they can to help patients suffering from COVID-19.

In the caption of the video, the Palace wrote: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge held telephone conversations with staff at two UK hospitals to thank them for their tireless work responding to the #covid19 outbreak.”

The calls were made to Queen’s Hospital Burton in Staffordshire and the University Hospital Monklands in North Lanarkshire, with one very special call in particular to the colleagues of a health worker who had tragically passed away from coronavirus.

One of the workers spoke of the emotional experience of receiving a call from the royals.

“We were so honored to receive a call from Their Royal Highnesses,” they said.

“It has been a tough time for all our staff. However the support we have received from colleagues and the community has been overwhelming. The telephone call from the Duke and Duchess was totally unexpected and a real morale boost.”

The Kate Middleton and Prince William are isolating in Norfolk, north-east of London, with their three young children, Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four and Prince Louis, one.

While the work they can do is somewhat limited due to the current circumstances, it’s amazing to see them make the best of their surroundings to show their support for people who are on the frontline.

Last week, the pair shared a sweet video of their three young children partaking in the Clap For Carers initiative, which involved thousands of people across the country clapping their hands out their windows and in the streets outside their homes to show their admiration for NHS workers.

The show of support is one of many to come out of the global pandemic, and we’re sure there’s more to come.
