LilyLouTay’s Hannah Taylor Shares Her Smokin’ Honey Bacon Green Beans Recipe

Hannah's secret? A little honey and bacon turn plain veggies into a family favorite

Comments

If you’ve ever begged your kids to eat their vegetables, Hannah Taylor feels your pain—and she’s got the fix. “My kids love their sweet, salty and smoky green beans,” she says, and it’s easy to see why. Crisp bacon, a hint of garlic, and a drizzle of honey turn humble green beans into the first thing gone at dinner. Cooked in one cast-iron skillet for easy cleanup, they’re comfort food with a little crunch and a lot of flavor—the kind of recipe that turns picky eaters into seconds-askers, every single time.

Cut the stem ends off the green beans. Chop the garlic. Set them both aside for now.

In a 10-inch cast-iron skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Line a plate with paper towels. When the butter is melted, add the bacon and cook, flipping a few times, until browned and crisp, 5–7 min. total. Move the bacon to the plate, leaving the grease in the pan. When the bacon is cool, crumble it up.

Add the green beans, garlic and a pinch of fine sea salt to the pan. Cook, stirring to coat the green beans in all those flavorings, then leave them alone until they're starting to brown in spots, about 5 min.

Add 2 Tbs. water and the honey, then stir to mix everything together. Cover the pan with a lid and steam the green beans until they're bright green, about 2 min.

Take the pan off the heat and sprinkle with ground black pepper. Taste a green bean and add more salt if you think it needs it before you add the bacon. Sprinkle with the bacon and eat hot!
