Aldi Brands Get a Makeover: What Shoppers Need to Know about the Big Packaging Refresh
Aldi is updating its packaging—see how the new look will help you find store exclusives
If you’re not a regular Aldi shopper, you may find yourself overwhelmed as you try and navigate the sea of products you won’t find at other grocery stores. This is because 90 percent of itesm sold at Aldi stores are private-label brands. Though it helps keep prices low for customers, it can be confusing for new shoppers. That might not be the case soon, however, thanks to a new redesign of store products. Keep reading to learn more about the launching of Aldi brands and refreshing of other popular items.
What’s changing with Aldi brands?
Aldi sells a variety of brands at their stores, most of which are unique to the discount grocery chain. The problem? Anyone who is new to shopping there might not be able to tell which items fall into that category.
Now that’s about to change, as Aldi will refresh every product’s packaging to make it clear which goods are exclusive to the store. Some products will showcase an “Aldi endorsement” stamp under the official brand name, such as Sundae Shoppe, Kirkwood or Happy Harvest.
Other items will display the company’s new namesake brand—the first it has ever launched. These products will showcase the Aldi brand name directly on the packaging so they can’t be missed.
Why is Aldi refreshing its private-label packaging?
For years, many customers have been vocal about how much they prefer some Aldi products over their name-brand counterparts—and now the company is listening! They’ve heard customers rave about finding hidden gems on their shelves, so they’re making it even easier to spot these budget-friendly favorites and discover new ones.
“The new look and feel of our products is the next step in our journey to modernize our simpler, quicker shopping experience,” Atty McGrath, CEO of ALDI, said in a press release. “Now, it’s easier than ever for shoppers to instantly spot the value and quality only ALDI can deliver.”
The company has also said it knows many fans refer to the popular products as “Aldi brands” so it’s making that official with the new branding.
When will the new Aldi packaging roll out?

Anyone who shops at Aldi may have already noticed this update as items with new packaging are currently being added to store shelves. The plan is to give every product a makeover, but the process is expected to take a few years. Once the roll-out is complete, all of the store’s products will include either the “Aldi endorsement” stamp or the new “Aldi brand” label.
If you’re worried about seeing some of your favorite brands disappear, rest assured that several will keep their well-known names, including Clancy’s, Specially Selected and Simply Nature. (The packages will simply have an “Aldi original” stamp next to the brand name.)
How shoppers are reacting to the Aldi brand redesign
After news of the branding redesign broke, Aldi fans took to Reddit to share their thoughts about it. Many seemed to understand why the company decided to implement this improvement.
“If it’s strictly just branding, it might be for the best,” one person commented. “It would help to let customers know that these aren’t just off-brand items, but Aldi’s items. Have to keep an eye out for added fillers, shrinkage and other improvements.”
Another expressed a similar sentiment, adding that the wide variety of brands sold by the store was often overwhelming at times.
“I’d never really understood why they have so many different store brand names anyways (although I’m sure there was [a] good reason for it) and had never thought of the different labels as distinctly different brands to begin with,” they wrote. “As long as product quality stays the same or better, doesn’t matter to me what they call it.”
Other shoppers were more skeptical of the announcement. Many said that they worry the improvements will go beyond just a refreshing of the packages.
“I wonder if it’ll be used as a way to hide discontinued products/items or hide variations in recipes/production/sourcing,” another added. “[Would] be nice to have a list of what will shift to what.”
As these improvements continue to roll out over the next couple of years, hopefully customers can look forward to an even smoother, more enjoyable shopping experience at Aldi.
