The Secret Beauty Weapon Behind Busy Philipps’ Flawless Unretouched Olay Ads
If you did a double take upon learning that Busy Philipps’ latest ads for Olay were completely unretouched, you certainly wouldn’t be the first. As the 40-year-old mother of two recently told Allure, she couldn’t quite believe it herself! Then again, it’s not so surprising when you consider the great lengths she regularly goes to keep her skin looking its best.
While she’s never had anything injected into her face (“I do think there’s something to holding off on that as long as you can,”) the former Busy Tonight host makes sure to consume plenty of H2O on a regular basis. “I drink more water than anyone I know,” she told Woman’s World while speaking about her latest partnership with Poise — It Takes Poise — which was created to reduce the stigma surrounding incontinence. “I’m a big believer in electrolytes.”
She also learned good skincare habits from her mother early on. “My mom always took really great care of her skin,” she said. “I just always knew the importance of keeping your skin clean and hydrated, even in my wild, early 20s.”
For Philipps, that means taking her makeup off every night before bed — no exceptions. “If I slept in my makeup, something is terribly, terribly wrong,” she said.
As the This Will Only Hurt a Little ($12.49, Amazon) author revealed to us, however, she does have a little help in the product department in the form of her secret skincare weapon.
“I always use … [Olay’s] shine control SPF primer,” she spilled. “I mean I’m obsessed with it.”
With one at home and one always with her in her purse, the I Feel Pretty star has everything she needs to protect her complexion from the sun’s harmful rays while also priming her skin for her regular makeup routine.
Packed with vitamin B3 (a signature ingredient for the skincare line), the actress’s go-to pick also has hydrating and exfoliating properties to aid with skin cell turnover and regeneration. In addition, it’s got plenty of antioxidants to neutralize free radicals, and of course, active SPF 35 for protection. Best of all, however, this primer does it all without adding any extra unwanted shine.
Philipps isn’t its only fan: One reviewer called this find a “must-have,” writing, “Olay really did it with this one! It certainly does not feel like I’ve applied an SPF to my face. … It leaves my skin nice and matte and makes the perfect makeup primer too!”
Added another, “This is a good daily sunscreen. The texture is light but not too watery, absorbs quickly, and makes my face feel velvety smooth without any greasy residue on my hands. It moisturizes dry areas and it helps control shine well.”
When paired with Philipps’ admittedly good genes and intricate skincare habits, this SPF is just what the doctor ordered for a flawless face!
Where to buy: $20.24, Olay
