Walk into a hardware store and you’ll find thousands of items, from nails and screws to pipes, wrenches, hammers… everything you might ever need for a DIY home repair or project. What you don’t expect to see? Dessert. But Ace Hardware stores are now selling pies. It’s an unexpected development, for sure, but it’s one shoppers are enjoying. Learn everything there is to know about the pies, where you can get them and how much they cost.
Why is Ace Hardware selling pie?
Ace Hardware recently partnered with The Pie Company, a Northern California-based bakery, to sell their frozen products, including pies.
The reason? The delicious high-quality desserts are sure to draw more customers to the hardware store, Ed Hansen, a salesman at North Valleys Ace Hardware in Lemmon Valley, told the Reno Gazette Journal. “Once they try these pies, they are more than 99% going to come back for another one,” Hansen said. “And if they haven’t heard of them or tried them, I’m usually able to sell a pie if someone is in there for something else. I just sold one to someone doing some plumbing.”
What pie flavors are there?
You can find a variety of pie flavors at Ace Hardware, including Apple, Dutch Apple, Strawberry Rhubarb, Blackberry, Blueberry, Peach, Apricot, Boysenberry, Pumpkin, Nectarine, Caramel Apple and Mixed Berry. But the most talked-about flavor is the Strawberry Rhubarb pie. @bradbradie on TikTok is a fan, explaining, “No way…I’ve had many a Strawberry Rhubarb pie in my life and this one is the perfect amount of tang and the texture is like pudding… This is probably one of the best pies I’ve ever had.I’m sorry I ever doubted.”
How much are the pies?
The popular pieces are available for $18.99 to $19.99—and shoppers are snapping them up! Hansen said his store has sold up to 500 pies in the week leading up to Thanksgiving!
Where to find the pies
Unfortunately, not every Ace Hardware is in on the pie-selling trend. As of now, you can only find the delicious desserts at select locations, typically in Northern California, the Bay Area and some areas in Nevada.
But as the trend continues to grow on TikTok, perhaps other Ace locations will join in and begin selling pies as well. If you’re in one of the lucky areas, head into your local Ace Hardware store and see if you can get your hands on one of these tasty treats!
