Deep discounts, one-day flash sales and free shipping offers make Cyber Monday (December 1 this year) one of the best times of the year to shop online—but if you’re like us, it can also lead to impulse buys and sneaky overspending. To the rescue: Top shopping experts for savvy strategies to help you save hundreds of dollars!

Find the best deals at one site

There are countless Cyber Monday sales and bargains out there—but finding them all can feel overwhelming. Enter your secret weapon: Google Shopping. With this powerful tool, you can pinpoint deals from across the web that match exactly what you’ve been browsing, all in one convenient, easy-to-navigate place. Simply head to the left-hand panel under the “Shopping” tab and click “Deals.”

There, you can explore promotions and markdowns based on your searches across a wide range of product categories like electronics, home goods, beauty essentials, clothing and kitchen appliances—even toys and fitness gear.

Also smart: Before you hit “Buy,” Google Shopping’s price comparison feature and “Best Price” badge will help confirm that the sale you’re seeing is truly the lowest price available. And if you suspect that holiday discounts might deepen after Cyber Monday, Google can track price changes for you and send alerts when the cost drops.

If you’re eyeing a KitchenAid stand mixer, for example, just click the “Track Price” icon next to the product name in Search—you’ll get an email or phone notification when any retailer lowers the price.

What’s your top Cyber Monday money-saving tactic?

Focus on shipping minimums

Although 68 percent of shoppers plan to shop in person during holiday sales, online purchases will still dominate, and many consumers will be hunting for free shipping, says budgeting pro Andrea Woroch. “But before checking out, pay attention to free-shipping minimums—stores that require a $150 purchase are often trying to tempt you into spending more,” she reveals.

Spending an extra $5 to $10 to qualify for free shipping is a no-brainer, but adding much beyond that isn’t worth it. If you can’t meet the minimum, choose free ship-to-store delivery or opt for curbside pickup instead.

Check Reddit for hidden steals

“One strategy I don’t see people using nearly enough around Cyber Monday is scouring Reddit for deals,” says Gary Gray, co-founder of CouponChief. “Reddit is a massive community of active deal-hunters who share the most up-to-date tips, hidden bargains and insanely discounted finds you won’t come across in any traditional promo material.”

Simply explore “Cyber Monday” subreddits or keep an eye on individual threads related to the products you’re shopping for. “If you’re in the market for a new laptop, for example, following r/LaptopDeals is a smart move. And since these subreddits stay active year-round, you might not have to wait for Cyber Monday after all.”

Score bundle bargains

Some of the biggest savings come from product bundles, says Clay Cary, of CouponFollow. “For instance, a $200 tablet that includes a $50 gift card or a 6-month streaming subscription is a better deal than a $180 no-frills tablet.”

Katie Jones, owner of Squirrel: A Store of Buried Treasure in England, agrees. “Last year, I bought luxury candles for $120, got a 25 percent discount and earned $20 cashback. My final price came to $70—a real win!”

Shop like a pro: incognito mode and cookie clearing explained

“It’s important to shop in incognito mode, or clear your cookies, to make sure you see the best prices,” says Laurie Hise, of Passionate Penny Pincher. “A quick Google search will give you step-by-step directions.” Using these tactics can help you avoid dynamic pricing tricks, where retailers adjust prices based on your browsing history, and make sure you get the most current and competitive deals.

Wait for ‘second wave’ sales

“One of the smartest Cyber Monday strategies is to treat it more like an auction than a race,” suggests Cary. Many shoppers rush to buy at midnight, for example, but stores often roll out a “second wave” of deals in the afternoon or evening to capture customers who waited.

“If you’re eyeing a high-ticket item like a laptop, check the price during the day and hold off on checking out right away.” Using price-drop tracking tools and online coupons can give you an edge when those deeper discounts are quietly released.

Accrue cash-back rewards

When it comes to savings, you can stack credit card rewards, loyalty points and cash-back offers from sites like Rakuten or CouponFollow. With a 5 percent back credit card, a 40 percent off sale can turn into as much as 60 percent total savings.

These combined perks could mean you get $50 back on a $200 order. Plus, this season, Rakuten is offering increased cash back for Cyber Monday from a range of brands, including Therabody, Ray-Ban, PetSmart, SkinCeuticals and more.

You can boost your benefits even further by adding browser tools that help uncover bigger savings and rewards, advises Woroch. For example, download Fetch Shop to earn points for online purchases—like 5 points per $1 spent at Target or 15 points per $1 at Nike—which are redeemable for gift cards to Amazon, Target and other stores, helping offset future holiday costs.

Another helpful tool is Sidekick from CouponCabin, which identifies the lowest price across multiple retailers and automatically applies any available coupons and cash-back offers, saving you both time and money.
