Ornament painting

For three Saturdays in December, head to Michaels to paint your very own ornament! You’ll be personalizing a charming wooden piece that can be turned into a lovely keepsake or gift. Bonus: The store will even have some sweet treats for you to enjoy while you give your ornament a festive makeover.
The dates for this session:
- Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 1–3 p.m.
- Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 1–3 p.m.
- Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 1–3 p.m.
Kids Club: clay trinket tray
The little ones can also join in the fun thanks to the free Kids’ Club workshop in December. When they visit the store on December 14 from 2-4 p.m., they’ll get to create their very own trinket tray made of air dry clay. The finishing touch? Painting details onto the dried tray to make the work of art colorful and unique!
Makebreak event: gnome jars

Michaels also hosts regular “Makebreak” events for crafters who are at least 13 years old. Though the session itself is free, you have to bring a supply or two to get started; the store will provide the rest.
During this event from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, you’ll be transforming your pre-purchased Mason jar into an adorable gnome, complete with a felt hat and sweater made of yarn. This fun decor piece will dress up any tabletop during the holidays!
Makebreak event: winter birch tree painting
Welcome winter’s beauty with your very own depiction of a beautiful white birch tree. An art pro will show you how to paint the scene step-by-step for a finished painting you’ll be proud to display. This particular session will be held on Sunday, January 4, from 2 to 4 p.m.
How to claim your spot
Ready to get crafting? You don’t even need to register for any of the events—simply arrive at a Michaels store near you in time for the session.
If you’d like a reminder, you can access the specific workshop page from the events calendar, then select the date (if more than one is offered) and click “set reminder.” You’ll be prompted to add your email address and phone number to receive messages prior to the event. This is optional, however, and if you are later unable to attend, there’s no need to cancel!
No matter your skill level, these free workshops are a great way to boost creativity, socialize and get into the holiday spirit!
