Joann Fabrics Is Back! Michaels Brings Cozy Crafting Favorites and Fall Finds to Store
Joann Fabrics lives on at Michaels—find yarn, fabric, and more for every craft
If you’ve been missing your beloved Joann Fabric stores since they closed down in May, we have wonderful news: Your favorite crafting supplies are making a comeback! Michaels has stepped in to bring back more of the fabrics, yarns and sewing essentials you’ve been searching for. The retail chain has acquired brands that had been sold by its competitor, plus expanded its own inventory to meet the needs of shoppers. Wondering what you may come across during your next visit to the store? Keep reading to learn more about Joann Fabrics making a comeback in Michaels and our favorite finds from the online shop.
How to buy Joann Fabrics items at Michaels
After filing bankruptcy twice over the course of a year, Joann Fabrics closed all of its remaining stores in spring 2025. But those who loved the craft store weren’t completely out of luck—shortly after, Michaels announced it had purchased some of Joann’s popular private labels to keep them available for crafters.
Now, those beloved crafting favorites are finally making their way into Michaels stores. In a recent press release, the company shared that it has launched The Knit & Sew Shop, featuring both company’s logos to bring “the best of both beloved brands together.”
The shop includes a large selection of fabric (more than what has been available in stores recently), as well as threads, sewing machines, yarn and more. You can also expect to see some of your favorite Joann labels, like Big Twist yarn, when you shop.
But that’s not all: Along with The Knit & Sew Shop, Michaels is also launching The Party Shop. Since Party City closed all of its corporate-owned stores in the U.S. this year, it’s no surprise that Michaels is looking to expand further into celebration territory, as well.
One of the highlights of this new in-store shop is the Balloon Bar, which features a variety of latex, foil and customizable balloons. Overall, there are 700 more party products—from balloon arches to tableware—being added to the inventory.
What you can expect at Michaels
Both The Knit & Sew Shop and the Party Shop have been launched in Michaels stores around the country. Expect to see signs in-store that make it clear which items are part of these new sections.
Even more products are on their way to shelves soon! For example, Big Twist yarn items will be available in late October, and fabric will also be making its way to more stores. There are 840 stores carrying it, with 250 more expected to receive a larger selection.
Also arriving in October: fabric cutting tables. You’ll be able to utilize the in-store cutting service at more than 650 locations.
Even if you don’t have a Michaels location near you, you can still take advantage by shopping online. The Knit & Sew Shop has its own dedicated page where you can browse the selection right from the comfort of your home. There are even sewing project ideas available if you need a little inspiration!
Our favorite finds in The Knit and Sew Shop

With the announcement of the new shop, we decided to take a look at what’s available to buy. Here are some of our favorite items in the online storefront. (Note: Stock may vary at your closest Michaels location).
Facets Yarn by Loops and Threads
Over the summer, Joann fans discovered Michaels was rebranding Big Twist yarns under this brand. While waiting for that label to return, it seems many customers have fallen in love with the soft texture and colors of this variety of yarn. We particularly love the Autumn and Ember shades for the season or Juniper for Halloween crafts. Each bundle costs $5.99.
Peanuts Pumpkin Patch Fabric
For seasonal sewing projects, this nostalgic pattern is perfect. The cotton fabric ($5.99 per yard) features Peanuts fan favorites like Charlie Brown, Lucy, Peppermint Patty, Schroeder and Snoopy surrounded by pumpkins and swirling autumn leaves.
Ergonomic Crochet Hook Set
You can ensure your hands stay comfortable while you crochet with this set of five ($17.99) G-K crochet hooks. The Susan Bates brand of hooks is designed to help reduce wrist motion so you can maintain a consistent gauge while you crochet. Each hook is also a different color to make identification easier.
Pin & Sewing Tool Craft Organizer Caddy
Your trusted supplies stay tidy with this Singer brand organizer caddy ($17.99). It’s ideal for holding scissors, pencils, tape measures and other sewing supplies. The organizer even includes an oversized pin cushion in the middle for easy access.
Forest Embroidery Floss Assortment by Loops & Threads
Give your next cross stitch or embroidery project a touch of fall flair with this pack of cotton floss ($7.99). It includes 36 skeins (each 8.75 yards) in natural-inspired hues of browns, greens, reds and oranges.
With all these supplies now available at Michaels, your creative possibilities are endless.
