Looking for a fun way to rediscover the joy in everyday errands? Try colorhunting! This popular social media trend encourages you to take a closer look at your surroundings, and you’ll be amazed at the treasures you discover. When I visited my local Dollar Tree this week to try my hand at colorhunting, I not only had a good time, I also encountered some great deals. Keep reading to learn more about the wonderful finds I photographed on my first colorhunting journey!

What is the viral TikTok colorhunting trend?

It’s essentially a scavenger hunt in which people explore a neighborhood or city to find items of a specific color. But rather than collecting things to bring back with them, the “hunters” snap a photo of everything they see that matches the assigned hue—like a piece of clothing, a mug, a mural or even a flower.

Then there’s one final step: Participants compile their nine best photos into a 3×3 grid—and typically post it on social media—so others can enjoy the beauty too.

Though it’s most often done as a group activity, you can join in the fun all by yourself. Since I’ve always been a fan of photo scavenger hunts, I decided to give it a shot by colorhunting for green at one of my favorite stores in town: Dollar Tree.

And I was quite pleased with the results!

It seems like every store I visit this year is bursting with lemon decor—so finding this lime plate ($1.50) at Dollar Tree was a nice change of pace. Though I spotted it in the party supplies section, you don’t have to save it for your next summer bash. Set it on your kitchen counter for a pop of color all year long!

Dollar Tree has an amazing selection of candles, but one thing in particular caught my eye: emerald green candle holders! These gems are a safe way to burn your favorite votive candles while adding a touch of elegance to your tabletop. But the best part is the price; though they look high end, you can grab each one for just $1.25.

Another nature-inspired must-have I stumbled across was this 4-foot-long faux plant garland for $1.75. It has the same ivy green hue as its real-life counterpart, making it impressively realistic. Use it for crafting, decorating and so much more!

Sure, you could get a neutral-colored plant stand to keep your beloved greenery off the ground this summer. But what about this bold option ($7) that will wow all who come to visit? With a sturdy metal construction and large tabletop surface, you know your potted plants will stay put all season long.

Table runner
