Before 2020, I was what some call a gym rat. I was finally making some strides in my latest fitness goals, and was skeptical that I could get in shape at home the way I could with every piece of exercise equipment at my disposal. Fortunately, I quickly discovered that exercising in my living room had major perks.
The first perk was that it was easier to squeeze workouts in. No longer obligated to get up early to drive to the gym before work, I could squeeze in a walk or HIIT session without factoring in driving time — total bonus. Another perk was that I never had to worry about dealing with unsanitary workout equipment, waiting in line for a machine, or any of the annoying things one deals with when being a gym member.
Although gyms have opened up (I still occasionally go to mine), most of my workouts take place at home. It’s convenient, fun, and leaves me without excuse. Keep reading to see some of my favorite pieces of fitness equipment to get in shape with, all which can be found on QVC.

Is it possible to get in shape at home?
Gyms are great, but not essential for getting into shape. “Working out at home is sufficient for most people,” says Kasey Ryan, CEO of Soul Force Fit, In-home Personal Trainer, and Pilates and Yoga Instructor.
Access your current fitness level is always a good place to start when looking to getting into shape. “The key components of fitness are cardiovascular health, flexibility, strength, body structure endurance, and function,” explains Ryan. “All of these components should be considered when measuring and progressing your fitness [levels]!”
Before building a home-training plan, you can gauge your starting point by performing fitness tests like counting the number of push-ups you can do, holding a plank pose, or timing how long you can keep a specific pace while running. Another way is to test your resting heart-rate, and using that number to determine your target heart rate during exercise. To learn how to do that, check out this quick video below. Investing in a fitness tracker (I recommend the FitBit Sense 2, $229.95) can also simplify the process.
You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to create a home gym. In fact, according to Ryan, there are only a few essentials that one needs at their disposal.
“The Equipment I recommend for an in home work out are a couple pairs of dumbbells, a yoga mat and strap, a foam roller, Therabands, ankle-weights, and perhaps a kettle bell! These simple pieces of equipment can give you most of what you need to get strong, aware, and healthy!”
Purchasing a “piece of cardio equipment” can also be beneficial, she says, provided you’re committed to using it. In translation: skip buying something that’s going to be used to toss clothes on in a month. Instead, ask yourself what type of cardio you enjoy, and invest in the corresponding machine.
For example, if you love biking but only ride in warm seasons, consider buying the Echelon Smart Connect 3X. It has 32-levels of magnetic resistance, a flippable device holder, and bullhorn-style handlebars.
Like walking? I suggest the IQ Foldable Treadmill. It folds into a compact, portable square when not in use, and boasting the bells of whistles of bigger models. It goes up to 6.2 miles per hour, can automatically adjust speed, and do much more. I’m obsessed with it!
