Alan Meds: Facts and Figures About the Online GLP-1 Prescriber
Upfront pricing and fast approval of compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide make the telehealth provider a viable option for weight loss
Due to the expense and periodic shortages of name-brand GLP-1s like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro, telehealth providers like Alan Meds offer compounded semaglutide (generic of semaglutide medications like Ozempic and Wegovy), and sometimes generic tirzepatide (generic of Trulicity and Mounjaro) to meet the demand. Low costs and ease of access make Alan Meds an option if you qualify for weight management and don’t want to deal with insurance. However, if you’re an Alan Meds patient, our mystery shopper calls showed that getting a real person on the phone is not so easy.
Alan Meds offers GLP-1 prescriptions completely online
Alan Meds’ online weight loss program starts with a free application that should take less than five minutes to complete. If the telehealth provider determines that you qualify for GLP-1 medication, Alan Meds will assign you to a licensed medical doctor for a treatment plan. The doctor will determine if semaglutide or tirzepatide is better for you.
If your clinician gives you a weight loss prescription, Alan Meds will work with one of its pharmacy partners to deliver your medication in three days or less. Your doctor will also provide monthly checkups to see your progress and adjust anything, if necessary. Alan Meds is available in 46 states, with a few exceptions.

Upfront pricing and availability
The GLP-1 prescriber is crystal clear about the pricing and availability of its weight loss medication. Because Alan Meds offers compounded or generic versions of Wegovy and Ozempic, pricing is much more affordable and readily available versus name-brand medications. The monthly cost includes a custom weight management plan, check-ins with your doctor and medication.

Alan Meds is very new but has LegitScript certification.
Alan Meds is a LegitScript-certified telemedicine and pharmacy website. This is important because it ensures that online pharmacies and telehealth companies comply with all applicable laws. Many payment service providers also require their telehealth providers to be LegitScript certified. Alan Meds (also branded as Alan Health or just “Alan”) is still in its infancy, though, having been founded in 2024 by Andrew McLeod.
Alan Meds does not take insurance
Many telehealth providers offering GLP-1 medication do not accept insurance. This is because there are several prerequisites that people need to meet to get approved, which can cause delays or rejections. Alan Meds is a cash-only service, so you’ll be out of luck if you’re looking to pay with insurance, HSAs, HRAs or FSAs,
While this method could provide higher out-of-pocket costs to patients, it also means that approval and delivery of weight loss medications are much faster. It can also lower costs to you by providing compounded GLP-1 medication, which may not be approved by health insurance, instead of name-brand options.
Alan Meds offers phone, email, and chat customer support, but phone support is poor
The telehealth provider’s extensive FAQ section should be able to answer most inquiries. However, Alan Meds also offers several ways for you to get in touch with its customer experience team. According to the website, it is available via phone, email, or online chat from 10 am-6 pm EST, Monday-Friday.
However, I conducted several mystery shopper calls, emails, and chat support requests. During my calls, Alan Meds did not let me speak to a live customer service representative. Its prompt states that all their agents are currently unavailable and to leave a voicemail. I called at different times of the day during normal business hours. I also left a few voicemails and did not hear back.
I then sent emails and used their website chat feature. Both used an AI bot to reply and stated an agent would contact me within 48 business hours. I received a reply to my chat within one hour, and an email reply within 24 hours. Both were able to answer my questions thoroughly.

These compounded medications are more readily available and significantly less expensive than their name-brand counterparts. Shipping times will depend on the carrier and your location, but you can expect Alan Meds to deliver your medication in three days or less.
Alan Meds also offers name brand Wegovy and Zepbound if one of its medical providers finds you a suitable candidate. Pricing for the name-brand medications will vary depending on insurance, dosage, and other factors.
Alan Meds satisfaction guarantee
While the telehealth brand does not offer a full money-back guarantee like Calibrate’s weight loss program, it provides a satisfaction guarantee. Here’s what a customer service representative told me:
“We do not offer a blanket, “money-back” guarantee. If you are denied medication by the doctors, for whatever reason, your money will be automatically refunded. However, we treat most refunds on a case by case basis.”
