Though that’s an adjective you likely haven’t used for foods before, there is something heroic about his list. Superfoods and hero ingredients help reduce your risk of diseases and ailments. Compiled through research done in Okinawa, Japan, Costa Rica, and the Greek island Ikaria where people live longer lives on average, the list’s brilliance is in its simplicity. You won’t find hard-to-locate items like spirulina or açai berries on his list; and you can probably find all of his “hero” foods at your local grocery store. In fact, they’re almost all affordable healthy foods you can eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day.

For Oliver, it’s about “smart and simple foods,” and his list reflects that. He ranks the top 14 foods to eat for longevity as follows:
