Finding the best tips or motivation can be overwhelming, given the amount of conflicting weight loss advice. However, sometimes, you may uncover a resource where you least expect it, including social media. A recent post on r/HealthforEra highlights one such video, which users praise as an inspiring tool in their fitness journeys. The original poster (OP) shared that it was the only weight loss video they’d watched to the end, and the transformation also blew away many others in the comments. Since then, it sparked a conversation about health rather than a number on the scale.

Why Leah Hope’s weight loss video went viral

In the post, the OP shared a TikTok video from @leahhopehealth chronicling her health journey, starting at “rock bottom” and ending with her inspiring 200-lb transformation. Hope posted the original video on March 15, sharing that it was three years ago that she decided to focus on her health.

Hope detailed her experience at Disneyland with her sister, brother-in-law, and nephew, noting that she knew it would be challenging because she weighed 400 lbs, but didn’t want to miss out on the experience with him. “Within a few hours, my feet hurt, my back was sore and I had a migraine,” she said in the video. “I spent most of the day sitting on benches while they rode the rides because even standing in line was too much for my body.”

Right after that trip, Hope knew she had to make a change if she wanted to be there for her nephew in the future. She also talked about chasing quick fixes that didn’t work long-term and how shifting her mindset helped her become healthier. “This time, I prioritized gaining health over losing weight. This time, it wasn’t about chasing a smaller body, it was about living a bigger life,” she emphasized.

Her positive statements impacted many others, with almost 4,000 upvotes and almost 100 comments in two days.

What Reddit users are saying about Leah’s journey

The response to Hope’s transformation on Reddit was full of love and support for her. People also resonated with her weight-loss approach, which focused on her health rather than the scale.

“That was the most beautifully articulated health journey I have seen,” one person wrote on the Reddit thread. “ I loved her attitude, shifting the focus from looking different to feeling better. And in the end, she gets it all. She looked amazing in that watercolor gown. What a beautiful inspirational person and story!”

Another person said “It’s genuinely inspiring. My goal’s not losing weight but recovering from a crippling injury. The focus on living a bigger life hits home for me.”

“‘Gaining health instead of losing weight’ is exactly the mindset so many people who struggle with weight need to have, someone else responded.

After detailing her initial health and weight loss, Hope continues to share her story on social media. She has almost 600k followers on Instagram and works as a health coach to help others reach their own goals.

She’s currently sharing updates on her life after skin-removal surgery. Hope lost weight naturally by changing her diet and exercise routines, but she still has a lot of excess skin.

In a post from February 14, she shows how she hides her skin with her clothing choices. Part of the caption said, “I’ve decided to share my loose skin and the process of getting it removed—not because I have to or because it’s expected, but because I want to help people. If sharing my loose skin helps someone else feel less alone or reminds them that losing the weight is worth the excess skin, then I’m proud to share this personal part of my life with you. 💜”

Her Instagram page is also full of helpful videos, including exercise tips, information about her diet and other aspects that contributed to her success.

Leah’s story is a powerful reminder that true health isn’t about the number on the scale—it’s about feeling strong, confident and living life to the fullest.
