Caution: spoilers ahead
By now, readers everywhere are aware that A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) 6, A Court of Splintered Harmony, has ended on a cliffhanger. And while we wish we could say we were surprised, it’s Sarah J. Maas, so we really weren’t. What is surprising is just how fast we’re getting the next book. In the past, ACOTAR fans have had to wait years for the next installment, but not this time. To learn more about when you can expect to pick up ACOTAR 7, A Court of Forgotten Melody, keep scrolling!
First, an ‘ACOTAR 6’ recap
A Court of Splintered Harmony released on Tuesday, October 27. It mainly followed Azriel, one of the series’ beloved “Bat Boys,” as he tried to figure out if he loved Elain, Feyre’s sister, or Gwyn, one of Nesta’s best friends. Elain also found herself in a love triangle with Azriel and her mate Lucien. As for the danger in the book, it mainly revolved around the awakening of Koschei the Deathless, the older brother of the Bone Carver and Stryga (the Weaver of the Wood) and might just prove to be the Inner Circle’s most deadly enemy yet.
The novel contained plenty of references to what happened in Crescent City 3: House of Flame and Shadow, which makes sense since that novel was a crossover between the two series. As of now, the series has yet to cross over with Maas’ other series Throne of Glass, but there were plenty of Throne of Glass Easter eggs in A Court of Splintered Harmony, making fans hopeful that somewhere down the line—maybe in book 7—there would be another crossover.

“This book blew every single expectation I had for this release out of the water,” raves one reader. “This was everything I needed and more. Being back with these characters was nothing short of feeling like coming home.”
What we know so far about ‘ACOTAR 7’
ACOTAR 7, A Court of Forgotten Melody will be released on Tuesday, January 12, 2027. The book’s synopsis describes the plot as follows:
“What was lost will be reclaimed. Prythian might never be the same again. Traditional alliances are crumbling, and no amount of diplomacy seems sufficient to repair them. With the continued threat of Koschei the Deathless on the horizon, a united front is crucial—and farther out of reach than it has ever been before. Bonds will be tested. Power will shift. And old enemies will emerge from nightmares of the past. As the Night Court’s Inner Circle disperses far and wide, desperate for any advantage against Koschei and his mighty allies, peace hangs by a fragile thread. But hope can be spun from the darkest of shadows, and the Night Court has its own part to play in the looming crescendo.”

That doesn’t give too much away, but based on how book 6 ended, it’s safe to assume that Azriel and Elain’s love stories will also continue into book 7. As of publication, that has not been confirmed, and since it’s Maas, there is a chance it won’t happen at all.
“ACOTAR 7 is gonna be EPICCCC!!!!!” one reader said.
Will there be an ‘ACOTAR 8’?
Currently, ACOTAR 8 has not been officially announced, but when Maas revealed that books 6 and 7 were coming, she said the story’s plot was initially told in one book, then she decided to split it up into three, seemingly confirming that yes, there will be an eighth book, but the title and release date remain a mystery.
“I like to do parts: part one, part two, part three. By the time I got to the end of part one, it was, like, 400 pages long…so I decided I wasn’t going to approach this project from a traditional format of a book. And what if this story, like what if this book was really long? Like what if it took me more than 1,000 pages to tell the story that needed to be told…What if that took a long time? Like what if that took beyond the constraints of a single volume? And what does that look like? How do I tell that story? And so part one was this huge huge thing,” she said on Alex Cooper’s podcast Call Her Daddy earlier this year.

“So it’s basically going to be like three physical volumes but it’s like one thing altogether that like no amount of glue in like any publisher’s factories could ever like hold this. So, it’s meant to be read ideally as one massive massive story as opposed to like a trilogy,” she continued.
