One of the most anticipated romantasy books is Crescent City book 4 by Sarah J. Maas. Below, we share everything we know thus far about Crescent City 4 and reveal what Maas has said about the novel.
What we know about ‘Crescent City’ book 4
Crescent City is Maas’ modern-day romantasy series. It follows Bryce Quinlan, a half-fae, half-human, and a fallen angel named Hunt Athalar as they investigate the murder of Bryce’s best friend Danika Fendyr. There are currently three books in the series—House of Earth and Blood, House of Sky and Breath and House of Flame and Shadow—with the last two featuring a highly anticipated crossover with some characters from Maas’ other bestselling series, A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR).
“For several years early on, I just idly loved the idea of little pieces from these worlds overlapping a little bit,” Maas told Today in 2024. “It wasn’t until about four or five years ago that I had this idea out of the blue: What if I took that to the next level? What if someone just went to another world? What would that be like? And once I had that idea, I saw the ending of House of Sky and Breath.”
In that same interview, Maas gave readers a much-needed update on where things stand with the fourth book.
“You will have to wait a bit,” the author said. “On the airport taxiing line, it’s a little down, but I know who the book’s about. I know the big ideas of what I want to happen.”

The reason for that delay? ACOTAR 7, 8 and a brand new mystery project!
“There’s one book that I’m going to be writing after this next ACOTAR book that I’m very excited about. I’m not going to say what world it’s in. I’m not going to say anything,” Maas explained. “It’s a story that’s been brewing in the back of my mind for a long time. I think it’s going to be a very emotional book for me to write, just in terms of the world I’ll be writing and the characters that might pop up. That’s all I’m going to say about that.”
As of publication, the fourth book in the Crescent City series doesn’t have an official title or plot, but many readers—including this author—think that it’s going to center around Hypaxia Enador, who is now the Head of the House of Flame and Shadow.
Others think Crescent City 4 will be one big crossover between ACOTAR and Maas’ other series, Throne of Glass. This matched what Maas told Today, which all but confirms that at some point it’s going to happen.
“The gates between worlds could open again, possibly to other places,” Maas said. “I’m not committing to anything. But I love the idea of being able to play in all three worlds.”
‘Crescent City’ book 4 release date
As of publication, Crescent City 4 doesn’t have a release date, but since ACOTAR 7 and 8 come out within the next year, it’s safe to assume we will know more soon. Especially since the next two ACOTAR books will most likely address the crossover in Crescent City 2 and 3.
