With her signature warmth and bold truths, pastor and co-founder of The Belonging Co., Alex Seeley shares how her passion for helping people understand the fullness of God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — has been a lifelong calling. Her new book, The Divine Counselor: Renew Your Mind, Heal Your Soul, and Discover Your Purpose Through the Guidance of the Holy Spirit is for everybody — whether brand new to faith or simply longing to know more about God’s character. Through her teaching, personal stories, and Biblical expertise, she invites readers into a richer understanding of the Trinity, revealing that a relationship with God is not distant or abstract, but personal and transformative.

Here, Alex shares with Woman’s World the compelling story of how her heart was stirred to write her latest book, where to start if you are new in your faith journey, and the truth that she wants everyone to know about the Holy Spirit.

How a Simple Daily Prayer to the Holy Spirit Sparked a Global Movement

One of the most powerful rhythms in Seeley’s life began during a difficult season. “It wasn’t until 2020, in COVID season, and I was actually doing this thing every morning, saying ‘Good morning, Holy Spirit.’ And I would just share and talk about the Holy Spirit and how we need him in these times of feeling alone and all of that.”

What began as Alex’s simple daily practice quickly became something much bigger when she started sharing about it on social media. “It just unraveled into this Bible study that thousands of people would tune into every morning at 7am and everyone was like, ‘I’m getting delivered,’ and ‘I’m getting baptized in the Holy Spirit,’ and ‘My whole relationship with Jesus is growing, why didn’t we know about this before?’”

Seeing lives transformed in real time stirred something deeper in her. “So I felt compelled that I had to write this story.” This movement is what brought Alex to write her new book, The Divine Counselor.

Breaking Misconceptions About the Holy Spirit: What Jesus Really Said

Seeley is also passionate about addressing the misunderstandings many believers carry about the Holy Spirit. With a touch of humor, she says, “Everyone treats Holy Spirit like the crazy uncle at Thanksgiving that everyone wants to avoid. But I want to squash every misconception.”

She points back to the words of Jesus, reminding readers of His promise in John 14 and 16: “It’s better that I go so that I can send you another Helper, the Holy Spirit, who will guide you in all truth, who will only speak what the Father is saying, what I’m saying. You need him.”

Far from being something strange or distant, she explains, “With the Spirit of God, he’s the one that softens, he’s the one that convicts, he’s the one that leads us. He’s the one that makes us look more like Jesus.”

Who Is the Holy Spirit? How He Speaks, Guides, and Reflects the Voice of God

“Holy Spirit is not a ‘what,’ he’s a ‘who,’” Seeley says, explaining that the Holy Spirit is not separate from God’s voice but intimately connected to it.

“He only speaks what the Father is saying and what Jesus is saying. He doesn’t speak of his own accord, the Bible says.” This understanding has shaped every part of her life. “He has navigated me in relationships. Who not to marry, who to marry. He has navigated callings. He’s constantly guiding me at every turn.”

From major life decisions to everyday moments, she describes the Holy Spirit as an active, present guide. “He sets you up to win, and that’s why you need to learn to hear his voice.”

Where to Start in Your Faith Journey

For those just beginning an exploration of their faith and the Holy Spirit, Alex offers both practical and encouraging advice. “If you’ve never read the Bible, that can be a bit daunting,” she admits, which is why her book serves as an accessible starting point. From there, she points readers to Scripture: “I would go to the book of John and the book of Acts. It’s amazing.”

These books, she explains, reveal both the life of Jesus and the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit.

Aside from your own solo research and reading of the Bible, Alex also recommends building a community and discussing how God is still moving today. “Talk to people! That’s a current testimony,” she says, pushing back against the idea that God only moved in the past.

“A lot of churches believe that the book of Acts finished with Acts back in history. And I’m like, ‘That’s not what Scripture says.’” Instead, she highlights living proof: “There’s living proof of it in my children. They’ve had visible encounters with God themselves.”

Experiencing God’s Presence Through the Holy Spirit Every Day

Above all else, Seeley wants readers to grasp one foundational truth: they are never alone. “He is so kind that He wants a relationship with each and every human. You can access him 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the rest of your life.”

Unlike any earthly counselor, she explains, “You don’t need to pay a fee, you don’t need to wait for an appointment. You could be in your darkest night. And you can call on his name. He will never, ever leave us.”

She describes the Holy Spirit as both comforter and counselor. “He is someone who walks alongside you. I love the fact that we’re never alone. He’s always speaking and he’s always guiding.”

In The Divine Counselor: Renew Your Mind, Heal Your Soul, and Discover Your Purpose Through the Guidance of the Holy Spirit, Alex Seeley extends an invitation readers to discover the voice of God, experience the nearness of the Holy Spirit, and walk confidently in purpose. Whether you are just beginning your faith journey or seeking a deeper relationship with God, this book offers a powerful reminder that the same Spirit who moved in Scripture is still moving today.

Available now wherever books are sold, it’s a timely guide to healing your soul and embracing a life led by the Holy Spirit, our divine Counselor.
