If you’ve been on BookTok these past few months, you’ve probably heard people talking about the book Daggermouth, by H. M. Wolfe. You’ve also probably wondered what the book was about and why it’s so hard to get a physical copy of it. Below we share everything readers need to know about the book’s plot, if there’s a sequel and how you can get your hands on one of the highly sought-after printings. Read on for more.

What is ‘Daggermouth’ about?

Daggermouth is a dark dystopian romance set in New Found Haven. It follows Greyson Serel, the flawless heir to the presidency, but in secret he’s involved in a much deeper group that could destroy the regime. Shadera Kael is a mercenary raised to kill, but when a mission goes wrong, she finds herself forced to marry Greyson, the one person she hates more than anything. The book is a steamy mix of passion, pride and the realization that everything you want just might be right in front of you.

“I think my main thing was that I want people to feel like they’re not alone in their rage and to also push people to think about other perspectives,” Wolfe told book influencer Krystal Lang at BookCon earlier this year. “I think my favorite thing about [Shadera] in this book is that she is not perfect by any means and she doesn’t try to come across it and she also doesn’t change that about herself for the MMC [male main character]. She is just like, ‘this is who I am. Accept it or leave it.’”

Daggermouth currently has over 84,000 ratings on Goodreads, with readers saying, “Reading this book is every woman’s birthright!” and “This was such an exciting and excellent dystopian story about power, survival, corruption, love, family and rebellion” in the reviews.

“These are morally gray characters. There is no hero in this. Every single person is a killer. Every single person is doing what they have to do to survive,” Wolfe told Lang. “And in order to soften that while still keeping it honest to that of the world that they live in, I felt like we had to be inside Greyson’s head. We had to see him because you had to see his own turmoil. And I think that that’s really important because what it looks like on the outside versus his internal dialogue, you see how tortured these people are. Even though they’re doing what they have to to survive, it kills a little piece of them having to do it. And I think that that’s so important to see in order to like—or feel for—these characters.”

How to read ‘Daggermouth’

Originally Daggermouth was self-published by Wolfe in December of last year, so there were a select few print copies out there. Since then, it’s been picked up by Scarlett Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, and is expected to be released in hardcover next month.

If you can’t wait that long to read it, the book is currently available on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited.

Daggermouth is so many different things, but above all, I think it’s a love letter to women and how strong we are,” Wolfe told People magazine in March. “I am so excited for Daggermouth to be out in the world and find more readers, like myself, who need a place to escape and work through the heaviness that is our daily lives. This book is so incredibly important to me, and I hope that those who read it can feel that through the pages.”

Is there going to be a sequel?

Yes! There is going to be a sequel. It’s called Python and while there isn’t a cover or plot yet, we do know it’s going to be released in March of next year.
