Binding 13 is the first installment in Chloe Walsh’s Boys of Tommen series—which has 6 books in total—and follows shy Shannon Lynch as she transfers to the elite Tommen College in Cork County, Ireland. Shannon is desperate to escape her troubled past marked by bullying and abuse. While she’s at school, she forms an unexpected connection with charismatic rugby star Johnny Kavanagh. Johnny’s one and only focus is going pro—no partying, no fun, no dating. As Johnny and Shannon’s relationship deepens, they must confront family pressures and painful secrets.

Is season 1 of ‘Boys of Tommen’ only based on the first book in the series?

No! According to the official Prime Video logline, season 1 is based on the first two novels in Walsh’s bestselling series, Binding 13 and Keeping 13. The first season of the Boys of Tommen series will center on “the forbidden love story of Johnny Kavanagh, the star rugby player on the verge of a pro career, and Shannon Lynch, the talented but painfully shy new girl at the prestigious private school of Tommen College in Ballylaggin, Ireland. Both teenagers are hiding secrets; Johnny, a potentially career-ending injury and Shannon, a troubled and violent home life. Through their secret and highly charged connection, the two teens from opposite worlds battle against the odds and find a way to save each other.”

The Boys of Tommen series is set in the fictional, super-cozy small town of Ballylaggin. In the book, the town is in County Cork, Ireland—about 30 to 40 minutes outside of Cork City. The atmosphere is rural and lush, but characters are still in close proximity to the city, which adds convenient layers to the plots throughout the books. It’s presumed that the TV series will be filmed in Ireland and set in the fictional town of Ballylaggin.

Boys of Tommen fans, have no fear! The TV series is in very good hands. In fact, this adaptation is being brought to the screen by the same producers who brought the world book-to-screen hits like The Summer I Turned Pretty, One Day and Twilight. Meanwhile, the scripts are being written by Poppy Colgan (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder).  “We’re thrilled to bring Chloe Walsh’s extraordinary Boys of Tommen to Prime Video. This BookTok phenomenon has captured the hearts of millions of readers worldwide with its deeply emotional storytelling and unforgettable characters,” said Nicole Clemens, VP of International Originals at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios in a statement.

“Poppy’s scripts capture the intensity of Johnny and Shannon’s powerful romance and dive into the rich constellation of characters to explore the themes of mental health, bullying and resilience with the same authenticity that fans love in Chloe’s books,” she continued. “We can’t wait for our exceptional creative team at Drama Republic, Temple Hill, and wiip [the independent television and film production studio known for projects like Mare of Easttown and The Summer I Turned Pretty] to bring this series to life for Prime customers.”

Author and fan reactions: ‘Telling this story authentically means the world to me’

With more than 300,000 five-star ratings on Goodreads, the emotionally powerful series has captured the hearts of readers around the world. But no one is more surprised by its viral success than author Chloe Walsh, who originally wrote and self-published the Boys of Tommen series in 2018. As the online fandom grew, the series was acquired by Bloom Books for traditional publication five years later.

“The response from readers around the world has been overwhelming,” Walsh said in a statement to Prime Video. “And knowing that everyone behind this production and book shares my passion for telling this story authentically means the world to me.”

Fans are mostly excited for the series, while others fall more into the cautiously optimistic category, expressing their concern over plotline changes, which can jeopardize the integrity of cherished characters’ stories. “Every author’s dream is to see their books in live action and for the opportunity to have a much larger audience than just readers experience it,” said one fan on Reddit. “So this is wonderful for Chloe—I’m also hoping that she will be an integral part of the creation process. Great work has been done recently with Heated Rivalry and Tell Me Lies so hopefully this streaming service will do a good job adapting these books as well!”

Well, we have good news: Fans can rest assured that Walsh will be involved in the series—as she is currently on board as an executive producer!

When will the ‘Boys of Tommen’ TV series release?

The series adaptation is still in the early development stages, but with all the essential parts in place it’s likely we’ll hear casting updates sooner than later. While no official release date has been announced yet we can estimate a date announcement by the end of 2026. Time to get those fancasts for Johnny, Shannon, Joey, Aoife, Gibsie and more rolling!
