Hannah Grace’s Icebreaker, which garnered a major fanbase following its 2022 publication, has been a hot pick for all readers. Whether you discovered the novel through BookTok or encountered it in your local bookstore, the nearly 5 million copies sold proved the book to be a hit. 

Ranked a 4 out of 5 on the spice scale by numerous readers, Icebreaker is an enemies-to-lovers storyline between competitive figure skater Anastasia Allen and hockey captain Nate Hawkins. Now, following the success of several hockey series like Off Campus and Heated Rivalry, the passionate and intense story is being translated onto the screen in a Netflix adaptation. But while a majority of Icebreaker features explicit content and lots of spicy scenes, you may be wondering if and how that will be translated to the screen.

Hannah Grace doesn’t really hold back when it comes to creating a spicy moment and there are a lot of them in Icebreaker. Will Netflix keep the spice?

As much as everyone loves a good spicy read, not every book-to-screen adaptation keeps the scenes exactly as they are in the book. Off Campus, for example, certainly kept the spice with certain scenes, but the show toned it down quite a bit. Heated Rivalry was similar in that it was certainly explicit, but not quite as detailed as the novel.

As for Icebreaker, the maturity rating has not yet been set since the project was only recently announced. So while the level of spice is still undetermined, it’s likely there will at least be a few such moments to tune into. 

“I have been a fan of steamy YA since the seventh grade, reading Judy Blume stealthily hidden behind a textbook,” showrunner Amanda Lasher says. “I love this genre, and it’s been a joy working with Jade, the team at Unwell and Netflix to bring Hannah Grace’s beloved Icebreaker novel to the screen ”
