Dolly Parton and Reese Witherspoon Shared These Sweet Words for Each Other and Their New Film
Is there anything Dolly Parton can’t do? The 76-year-old country singer recently added “co-author” to her extensive resume with the release of her new book. Now, that book is taking her to new heights: Parton will star in and co-produce a film with bestselling author James Patterson and actor Reese Witherspoon.
As explained by Variety, Parton and Patterson’s number one New York Times bestseller, Run, Rose, Run (Buy from Amazon, $18) is being adapted into a feature film. The co-authors will produce the movie, as will well-known producer Lauren Neustadter and Reese Witherspoon.
That’s right — Witherspoon really is joining the dream team! Her media and production company, Hello Sunshine, is taking on the project, and Witherspoon couldn’t be any happier.
“Dreams really do come true!” Witherspoon shared in an Instagram post. “I’m so grateful to Dolly & James for trusting us with their vision to bring this special story to life.”
According to Variety, Witherspoon had even more sweet words to share: “Growing up in Nashville, I’ve loved Dolly since the moment I heard her magical voice and saw her luminous personality shine onstage,” she said. “Beyond her magnetic presence as an artist and performer, she is one of the greatest songwriters and storytellers of our time.”
Parton and Patterson seem to be equally as excited. “James and I love Reese and look forward to working with her and her wonderful team,” Parton said.
“It has been a joy working with Dolly Parton on this book. It’s a great story that we are both proud of,” Patterson added. “And, in partnership with Reese Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine, we will produce a great movie.”
What will the movie be about? We can only guess based on the novel’s synopsis: “[It’s] a thriller about a young singer-songwriter on the rise and on the run, and determined to do whatever it takes to survive. Every song tells a story. She’s a star on the rise, singing about the hard life behind her.”
And what part will Parton play on the big screen? It’s unclear where exactly the star will fit into her own story, but one thing is for sure: We can’t wait to see her in a feature film again!
