‘Filled With Personal Stories’: Dolly Parton Announces Her Most Intimate Book Yet
The third in the series includes personal stories, unseen photos and memories from 70 years on stage
Calling all Dolly Parton fans! The beloved country music star just announced a brand-new book, Star of the Show: My Life on Stage, which shares its name with her hit 1979 single. This latest Dolly Parton book will include never-before-seen photos, emotional behind-the-scenes stories and personal reflections from her decades on stage. What is ‘Star of the Show: My Life on Stage’ about?
Star of the Show: My Life on Stage was announced by Dolly on her Instagram on April 17. She also shared the beautiful purple cover, which showcases her in a sparkly white jumpsuit carrying a white guitar.
According to the singer, this book is “a celebration of my journey as a performer, filled with personal stories, cherished memories, and never-before-seen photos from more than seven decades on stage.”
Dolly also said there will be a “deluxe hardcover edition” with “an exclusive cover and special photography prints—a little something extra for the fans who’ve been with me every step of the way!”
Star of the Show: My Life on Stage will serve as the third book in her acclaimed photo-memoir trilogy. The first—Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics—was released in 2020. This was followed by Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones in 2023. Both were bestsellers and showcased photos and letters from the “Jolene” singer.
Dolly’s past bestselling books and cookbooks
As mentioned above, Star of the Show: My Life on Stage is not Dolly’s first book. In fact, the singer has released several memoirs and cookbooks throughout her career, with the most recent one being Good Lookin’ Cookin’: A Year of Meals, which she co-wrote with her sister Rachel Parton George. It was published in September 2024.
“I wrote this book with my sister, Rachel, who might just be the best cook I know,” Dolly wrote on Instagram back in March 2024. “If you’re like us, you believe that good food and good times are the next best thing to pure love.”
Along with the book, Dolly and Rachel also teamed up with the meal delivery service Home Chef to bring the necessary ingredients right to their readers’ doors.
“They make meal prep so easy, and with the release of our cookbook, we loved the idea of making it even simpler for people to enjoy our Good Lookin’ Cookin’ recipes at home,” Rachel told Woman’s World in September 2024. “So, we were honored when Home Chef approached us about featuring a few of our recipes in their convenient meal kit format. It’s been such a fun partnership, and we couldn’t be happier to share our family recipes in this way!”

Star of the Show: My Life on Stage is expected to be released on Tuesday, November 11. Ten Speed Press is publishing it and is available for preorder now.
It will be the first book Dolly has released following the tragic death of her husband, Carl Dean.
