Osmond turns 68 today, so on his last day being 67 years old, he shared a hilarious video with fans that only proved he’s in the loop with the trends and Gen Z language. He began the video, saying, “Well, I’m sitting here in my vocal booth. I’ve actually done several albums in this place and I’m thinking, ‘This is it. This is my last day of being 67, or as the kids nowadays say, 6-7,’” Osmond said.
He then made the reference again in the caption for his video. Osmond wrote, “Wrapping up year “6-7” today…did I say that right? 😂Excited for a new year of life with the best fans in the world! 💜”
What does ‘6-7’ mean?
The singer is tapping into the Gen Z culture, as have many over the past few months, with the phrase “6-7” soaring to popularity. The trend originated from the song “Doot Doot (6 7)” by Skrilla, where the lyric “6-7” is used repeatedly. The phrase spiraled out of control and has been used in a variety of contexts.
The phrase was even chosen as the “Word of the Year” by Dictionary.com, keeping the trend going. Steve Johnson, director of lexicography for the Dictionary Media Group at IXL Learning, shared some insight into why the phrase was chosen for “Word of the Year.”
“Something that you would have thought would have gone away, it just kept on growing larger and larger, snowballing into kind of like a cultural phenomenon,” Johnson explained to CBS News.
While many trends fade in and out very quickly, the “6-7” one seems to be staying around for a little bit longer.
