Hannah Waddingham recently revealed relationship with her boyfriend

Back in June, Waddingham hit the red carpet with her guy in tow when she appeared at the Variety Power of Women event in London, but the couple had actually been spotted months prior out and about. Nick, while all smiles by Hannah’s side, seems to live a life out of the limelight, making a living as a highly skilled spinal surgeon. 

In an interview with Women’s Health UK, the actress pulled the curtain back just a bit on her new relationship and got candid about her decision to remain solely focused on her career and her daughter for the last few years. 

“I didn’t really have the space mentally or emotionally for that. I’ve hunkered down and focused on my girl and me,” she shared with the publication, noting that it’s taken her about eight years to truly get back into dating. “And it’s really lovely too, obviously, my relationship. But the best thing about it is, firstly, being happy and strong in myself.”

In a separate conversation with Glamour, she explained that when it comes to dating, she has rather high standards. “I am quite picky. I feel like being a single mother is the greatest contraception on the planet! Yes, I could go out on dates; yes, I could go out here, there and everywhere, but I have a shorter fuse for bulls—t now. I know that someone will come along who likes a strong, opinionated woman, and is inspired by it rather than terrified!” And luckily, it seems like Nick is that person for her!

Hannah Waddingham is mom to a 12 year old daughter, Kitty, whom she shares with her former partner, Gianluca Cugnetto. Hannah and Kitty’s father split when Kitty was a little over two years old, and despite the mom guilt that occasionally eats at her, she’s navigated being a single parent with grace. 

“Of course, I never intended to be a single mother, but luckily I’m still on good terms with my daughter’s father, which is important. Our relationship ended when our daughter was around two and a half years old. It felt like the rug was pulled from underneath me, but I had to make the decision not to be weakened by it,” she told Glamour, detailing that at first, it was a major adjustment. “I do believe that when you painfully shut one door, the sun shines through the cracks of another and you have to go to it. Of course, some days I think that I’m an absolutely rubbish mother because I go out to work strange hours and I can’t always be with my girl, and I do believe women particularly have inherent guilt. But I’m learning to feel pride in my work and that can only be a positive thing to teach my daughter—just as I saw my mother working, my daughter now sees me, and so it continues.”
