Heidi Gardner Shares Secrets of SNL’s Viral ‘Domingo’ Sketch—Plus What to Expect in Season 51 (EXCLUSIVE)
She also shared what people can expect from the highly anticipated 51st season
Heidi Gardner is a 42-year-old comedian and actress best known for her work on the hit sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL). And now, fresh off the show’s historic and hilarious 50th season, the Missouri-born actress is opening up exclusively to Woman’s World about what really went on behind the scenes—including how that iconic “Domingo” sketch really made her feel—and what people can expect from the highly anticipated 51st season. Read on for more.
Heidi Gardner opens up about ‘SNL’ Season 50
Gardner has been on Saturday Night Live since Season 43, which aired from 2017 to 2018, but according to her, none of the show’s past seasons were as iconic or as fun as the 50th.
“I really feel like I will be processing it for the next 50 years,” she joked. “It was so packed into eight months. We started off the year with Dana Carvey playing President Biden and that’s enough for me for two years. Just meeting Dana Carvey would have been enough. But then it was, like, the 50th! It was election season and Kamala Harris was there, but we also did the whole anniversary. There was an anniversary concert and I saw Nirvana play with Post Malone. I saw Cher sing ‘Turn Back Time’, and that was before the 50th special even aired.”
“At a certain point I was like, ‘Y’all, this is too much. Like, this is making my brain explode. It’s too much celebration, too much partying in the best way,’” she continued. “But I still need to go back and process.”

Garder also shared that while she met some incredible celebrities during Season 50, none will ever compare to meeting actor Jack Black.
“He’s my hero and was my hero before this, but working with him took hero status to the next level. They say, don’t meet your heroes, but I met mine and it inspired me to be a better person. So that was the best,” she shared. “And then Stevie Nicks performed this season, and just seeing all the people from every department flock to the studio when she started ‘Edge of 17’ was very cool.”
Heidi Gardner shares secrets about the ‘Domingo’ sketch
One of the most famous sketches from SNL Season 50 was the “Domingo” sketch featuring Ariana Grande, Ego Nwodim, Chloe Fineman, Andrew Dismukes, Sarah Sherman, Marcello Hernandez and Garder. It centered around a group of bridesmaids as they reveal through song that their best friend—a.k.a the bride—cheated on her husband during the bachelorette trip. It became such a fan favorite that there were two more spinoff sketches, one of which took place during the 50th Anniversary Special.

“I mean, that was another crazy unexpected thing,” Gardner said. “This is really fun. I love that we got to sing with Ariana Grande, even though we were all singing badly, which is how I sing. We were just having a good time.”
Heidi Gardner spills on ‘Saturday Night Live’ Season 51
Given how successful Season 50 of SNL was, it makes sense that viewers and cast members are anxiously awaiting any news on when Season 51 is going to happen. And while Gardner might not be able to share much, she was able to give us a sneak peak.
“We’re still on summer break right now, just coming off of such a historic year. I think my hope for SNL Season 51 would just be for it to be wild, free, explorative and experimental. There were so many things we needed to hit for the 50th to honor the people, the cast and the music, so, I feel like Season 51 should be like SNL unhinged,” she said.

While she awaits returning to the stage, Gardner has an exciting partnership with Buffalo Wild Wings to keep her busy. Starting on August 20, the wings restaurant is bringing back their Pick Six for $19.99, something that the comedian is helping with.
“I’m from the Midwest and wings are important to us. It’s like barbecue and wings,” she said. “I remember hearing about Buffalo Wild Wings, but we hadn’t gotten one in Kansas City yet. So it was always like this lore—until we got it.”
