The ‘Eddington’ Costume Designer Shares Behind-the-Scenes Secrets and Where To Buy Western Gear (EXCLUSIVE)
With stars like Luke Grimes, Pedro Pascal, Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone, this movie makes you say ‘Yee-haw’
Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone and Yellowstone’s Luke Grimes in a brand new Western movie? Count us in! That’s right, the four stars recently teamed up to star in a film called Eddington, which takes place during the COVID-19 pandemic in a small town called Eddington, New Mexico, and follows a group of people who have a score to settle with each other. Woman’s World recently caught up with the film’s costume designer, Anna Terrazas, to learn more about what really went on on the film set and how some of the stars actually behave when the cameras aren’t rolling. Read on for more.
The ‘Eddington’ costume designer shares some behind-the-scenes secrets
With big powerhouse Hollywood names like Phoenix, Pascal, Stone, Grimes and more, it would make total sense if some of the set dynamics were a little off and tense, though according to Terrazas, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
“We all sort of became a family,” Terrazas told Woman’s World. “We were shooting in a really tiny town where we were all in a parking lot, so at the end you would bump into everybody and just start chatting.”
Once the camera started rolling, however, Terrazas said the actors fully disappeared into their characters.
“They’re the most professional actors I’ve ever seen. I really have to say, I’m thankful to all of them, because I think we collaborate really nicely, and on set, it’s always about having respect for everybody’s job,” she said.

“I was really lucky and grateful for this opportunity. When I was offered the film, the only actor I knew who was already on board was Joaquin. Then, Emma and Pedro came on and everything started falling into place. It was fantastic working with them and we established a great relationship.”
Even with that connection, Terrazas shared that the film wasn’t without its challenges, because when it comes to costume designers, she said it’s like creating the characters’ “second skin.”
“First, we needed to get some essence of what we wanted to talk about in the film, where we were shooting and what community we wanted to show. Then, it was conducting a huge amount of research on that,” she explained. “We start thinking of all the different things that happened to all of us and it was very important to portray that, and not just in our main characters, but in the background as well. That’s something that’s really important to me when I design a film: the main character and the background characters have the same level of importance. That gives us the entire sort of world we’re in.”
Anna Terrazas shares her best advice for buying Western clothes
As mentioned above, Eddington is a Western film, which means that the characters are always seen in cowboy hats and boots, so naturally we had to ask Terrazas where she thinks the best place to buy those things is.
“As soon as I started reading this script, I was looking for things that were already worn, used, and we were in the best place ever, which is Albuquerque, New Mexico, because it has the most amazing thrift stores. So we got all our stuff from them,” she said.

“We were doing this fun, amazing Western and that’s the community that we wanted to portray. And the only place that we could have done this was with these beautiful thrift stores where people go and leave their stuff. And they’re in perfect condition, you know, for somebody else to wear.”
“Even in the thrift stores, I was creating the characters. I was observing the people who were buying there and taking photos of them. It was a lot of work, finding clothing by going through piles and piles of it and trying to find what we wanted for each sort of atmosphere that you see in the film.”
Be sure to catch Eddington in theaters everywhere now.
