In a recent red carpet conversation with Woman’s World the actor shared his Dutton Ranch adorable audition story, and trust us when we say it’s a must-read to believe!

Juan Pablo Raba opens up about his ‘Dutton Ranch’ audition

Raba is a 48 year old Columbian actor best-known for The 33 (2015), Narcos (2015 to 2016) and Six (2017 to 2018). In Dutton Ranch, he plays Joaquin, a worker at a rival ranch.

“My son is named Joaquín, and I got the call back from this show to fly from Europe to Texas to audition for it again, and I missed my son’s birthday,” Raba tells Woman’s World. “So I got to audition on the day of his birthday, and I told him, ‘Joaquin, I’m going to go to Texas. I’m going to get this role, and it will be dedicated to you.’”

Eventually, Raba did get the role and, according to him, his son “was super excited.”

“He’s such a little Buddha. He’s, like, ‘That’s very cool. I’m very proud of you,’” the actor continues. “He’s always super cool about everything. If I hadn’t gotten it, he’d be, like, ‘You tried your best.’”

As for how Raba made up for missing his son’s birthday, the actor said he didn’t need to do much!

“He was in Paris with some of his best friends, so I think he was good,” Raba jokes.

Juan Pablo Raba shares some ‘Dutton Ranch’ set secrets

Once Raba finally got to set, it was, he says, “great because all the weight really is on Cole [Hauser] and Kelly [Reilly].”

He also said that he spent a lot of time drinking Mexican Coke while not doing any of the cowboy stuff.

“I was actually very bummed because I was getting ready to go to cowboy camp, and then, you know, they realized my character actually [didn’t need it],” he told Woman’s World at the Dutton Ranch press junket. “So I didn’t get to do cowboy camp. I honestly would have loved to, because I love that part of our job. But, I couldn’t do it this time, though I did get to drive a very sophisticated Range Rover all over Texas,”

Juan Pablo Raba reveals what his favorite Taylor Sheridan show is

Aside from Dutton Ranch, Raba says that he loves Taylor Sheridan’s hit show Landman, which follows the exploits of an oil worker named Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton).

“I don’t know anything about that universe, but I just find it fascinating,” Raba explains. “I love mountains, so I can relate a lot more to that kind of Montana universe, but this whole Texas thing and all these dynamics are so new for me, so I just find it fascinating.”

Raba also said that, if given the chance, he would love to cross over with Landman, but can’t say for sure if that would ever happen.
