Kaitlin Olson and Rob McElhenney’s Love Story: From ‘Always Sunny’ Co-Stars to Soulmates Forever
From co-stars to soulmates, Kaitlin and Rob's love story proves that when you know, you just know
They say when you know, you know, and when it comes to Kaitlin Olson and Rob McElhenney, they both simply knew. The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia costars bring to life the characters of Dee and Mac, but the reality is that their love story began ages ago—long before It’s Always Sunny even hit the airwaves. Now, this couple has been married for over a decade, and with each passing year, their relationship only grows stronger and stronger. Here, read everything there is to know about High Potential star Kaitlin Olson and her husband, Rob McElhenney.
Kaitlin Olson captured Rob McElhenney’s attention back in 2002
As the story goes, Rob first spotted Kaitlin during an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. The actress was portraying Becky, Larry’s sister-in-law, when her eventual costar first noticed her on screen. Years later, Kaitlin found herself in front of Rob auditioning for the role of Dee Reynolds in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but despite his initial attraction to her, he wasn’t exactly taken by her trial. When Kaitlin was reading for the role, she was asked to put down her script, but while improvising, she happened to leave out one of her funniest lines—one that McElhenney had written. Luckily, despite Rob’s hesitation, his crew convinced him that she was the lady for the part.

By the second year of the show, Kaitlin began falling for her co-star. “He looked like he was about 14 years old, and he just was like this little boy who just knew what he was doing. He was so smart; he was so funny; he was great at collaborating. I remember calling my friend and being like, ‘I think I’m attracted to this person, but when I hug him, I can wrap my arms all the way around his body and back into myself. He’s very thin and young.’ He was not my type at all, and I was falling in love with him. And, um, he didn’t feel the same way,” she told Variety. Rob wanted to keep things professional between the two, but when they attended the wedding of their costars, Charlie Day and Mary Elizabeth Ellis, something clicked, and by 2006, they were together—though they didn’t tell their friends right away. In 2007, Rob got down on one knee and the following year, the duo tied the knot in a Malibu ceremony.
Do Kaitlin Olson and Rob McElhenney have kids?

Since getting married, Kaitlin and Rob have welcomed two sons. “I just have two great kids,” Olson told Fatherly. “We talk a lot about consent and respect and leaving a place better than you found it. They’re at the point now where they’re like, ‘We get it, mom.’ I don’t know that it’s much more than making sure that you live your life in a way that you’re proud of, because your kids are always watching. They’re polite and respectful.”
As for parenting alongside her hubby, Kaitlin feels rather lucky. “We’re great friends, he’s an amazing man, and he’s fun. My kids are so lucky that he’s their dad. He’s smart, he’s sensitive, he was everything that I was looking for,” she told Glamour.
