Luke Grimes talks ‘Marshals’ Season 2
At the end of Season 1, viewers watched a pivotal sequence unfold when Kayce’s teenage son, Tate, was kidnapped by Tom Weaver—and Season 2 kicks off with Kayce’s desperate hunt to find him.
Back in 2024, Luke and his wife, Bianca Rodrigues Grimes, welcomed a son, and his real-life journey as a dad has come to color the way he portrays one on screen, he shared.
“At the very beginning of Yellowstone, I was 33. I wasn’t married, didn’t have any children, and all that’s changed now,” he shared with Woman’s World. “So I was sort of guessing back then, maybe, what that would feel like, or what being a father might be like—and now I know a little bit more.”
He continued, “I think part of parenting is that we don’t really know what the right thing is a lot of the time, and watching Brecken [Merrill] grow up has been pretty incredible. I started with him when he was nine years old, now he just turned 18. So now he’s able to come to set without his mother, which is fun for him, I think.”
Luke went on to share that in Marshals, Brecken’s character is also turning 18, which forces Kayce to assess what his own future will look like as his son embraces a more independent chapter. “Kayce kind of sees his future and how lonely it could be, and I think that’s going to end up opening him up to some possibilities of maybe looking for some sort of love or community again.” Another Kayce Dutton love story? Luke Grimes talks country music collabs and Ella Langley
In the debut season of Marshals, Grimes got to act alongside his pal and fellow country musician Riley Green, and when asked which other country artist could handle the heat of the Marshals world, the 42-year-old actor had the perfect response.
“I always said I thought Chris Stapleton would play a really good bad guy. If he reads or hears this, we’d love for you to come on the show,” he said with a laugh.
As for his other on-camera collaborations, Luke led the way in Ella Langley’s music video for her hit song “Choosin’ Texas” after they connected at the wedding of a mutual friend. “This is kind of right before the big pop off for her, right before she got strapped to the rocket and took off. And she was saying that she’d like to maybe act someday, and we were talking about that, and so I think maybe that’s why she reached out when it was time to do the video, and it was a no-brainer.”
He continued, “I just love that song so much. I had no idea that it was going to become the biggest song of all time. But I’m so happy for her. She’s great. She’s a real artist. All of the success that she’s having is because of the fact that she is a real artist, and she puts so much of her heart and soul into her work, and I’m just a huge fan of hers.”

Luke talks finding peace in the West
Luke might be booked and busy as he prepares for the release of the second season of Marshals, but he continues to rally for the causes that matter most to him, including High West’s Protect the West initiative, which aims to preserve and protect the western landscapes that mean so much to him.
While living in Los Angeles, Luke would spend his summers in an RV traveling to and from the national parks, and now, the West is an integral part of who he is. “I just love being in the mountains. I don’t know that I could ever live without them now, to be honest. I just feel happier here. The sky is bigger here. It’s something in the beauty of the nature here and its creation that does something to me.”

Luke has been playing Kayce for close to a decade, but you won’t find him complaining about it any time soon. “It’s definitely the greatest character that I may ever play. The first time I read the original script for Yellowstone, I remember thinking, ‘If I don’t get that part, I’m going to be heartbroken.’”
He continued, “Playing Kayce has been the greatest ride of my life, and I just owe him so much about who I am now and the things that have happened to me and where I’m at in my career. So I’ll play him as long as they want me to.”
