Whether you’re a golf fan or not, you’ve likely heard about Scottie Scheffler’s victorious weekend at the 2025 Open Championship, but if you know anything about him and his personal life, you’d know that he’s just as lucky off the green as he is on it. Scottie Scheffler met his wife, Meredith Scudder, when they were just kids, and these two high school sweethearts have built a beautiful life together since tying the knot back in 2020. After his exciting run at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, Scheffler had nothing but praise for his wife and her constant support.

“Every time I’m able to win a tournament, the first person I look for is my wife,” Scottie shared in a press interview after his recent win. “She’s always the first person I want to celebrate with. She knows me better than anybody. That’s my best friend. It takes a lot of work to be able to become good at this game, and I wouldn’t be able to do it without her support. She does a tremendous job of taking care of everything for us at home and giving me the ability to put in the amount of time and effort that I put into the game of golf,  because it’s a lot and it’s not a lifestyle that’s suited for everybody.” Here, get to know Scottie Scheffler, his wife Meredith Scudder, and their sweet family.

How Scottie Scheffler and Meredith Scudder first met

This duo met in high school as freshmen, but it wasn’t until they were seniors that they got together. As Meredith remembers it, Scottie was shy when she first crossed paths with her eventual husband, but she admired certain qualities about him even before she truly got to know him. “At the beginning of high school I always thought he had a super humble ambiance about him, that he was just a really down-to-earth guy that doesn’t take himself too seriously,” Meredith told Golf Digest. “Even when he had amazing accomplishments, that wasn’t the most important thing about him.”

Reflecting on the Masters in 2022 in an interview with Rolex, Scottie recently looked back at the impact his wife had on him leading up to his win. “Going into Sunday morning, it’s the final round of the Masters. I wake up, turn on the TV, and start watching the golf,” he recalled.

“It seemed like all they could talk about was me. I think it kind of dawned on me: ‘Holy smokes, this is a really big deal. I’ve worked my whole life to have a chance to win the Masters.’ I was a bit overwhelmed. I remember crying a lot. Just because I was able to sit there with my wife. She’s my biggest supporter, she knows me better than anybody. She saw me go from being a fairly anonymous player of the Tour to being number one in the world. Then, to have a chance to win my first major, she kind of reminded me why I go out and play. If I lost that day, she loves me the same.”
