Meryl Streep is known as one of the finest actresses of her generation, and over the course a busy career that’s spanned nearly 50 years, including 100 credits and a record-breaking collection of awards and nominations, she’s somehow found time to raise four children with her former husband of 39 years, sculptor Don Gummer—and they’ve all followed in their parents’ creative footsteps.

Read on to learn about what Streep’s son, Henry Wolfe, and daughters, Mamie Gummer, Grace Gummer and Louisa Jacobson, have been up to lately.

Henry Wolfe: From indie music to movie soundtracks

Meryl Streep and Don Gummer’s first child, Henry Wolfe Gummer (who goes by Henry Wolfe), was born in 1979. In the early ’00s, he started an indie rock band, Bravo Silva. The band didn’t last, and Wolfe embarked on a solo career, releasing two EPs in 2009, and his solo debut in 2011. He’s released two more albums since then, and his songs have been featured in his mom’s films Julie & Julia (2009) and Ricki and the Flash (2015).

Wolfe also dabbled in acting, appearing in Lying (2006), The Good Shepherd (2006) and The Wait (2013). He married acupuncturist and herbalist Tamryn Storm Hawker in 2019, and the couple has a daughter and a son.

In a Daily News interview, Wolfe said his mom was supportive of his music career and attended his concerts, but admitted that her fame made his career a bit complicated, saying, “There are a certain amount of assumptions that go along with that, which tend to not be fair, like the recognition somehow helps me. But it also hurts because people start to think that I don’t work hard and they don’t take me seriously.”

Mamie Gummer: From TV roles to acting alongside her mom

Streep’s oldest daughter, Mamie, was born Mary Willa Gummer in 1983. She had an auspicious start to her acting career, making an uncredited appearance opposite her mom in the 1986 film Heartburn. She went on to appear in a number of plays, and starred in the TV series Emily Owens, M.D. from 2012 to 2013.

In 2007, Gummer played a younger version of her mom in the film Evening, and in 2015 they shared the screen as a mother-daughter pair in Ricki and the Flash. Gummer has also been in films like The Ward (2010), The Lifeguard (2013), Side Effects (2013), Cake (2014) and The End of the Tour (2015).

Gummer had recurring roles in The Good Wife (2010 to 2015) and its spinoff, The Good Fight (2018 to 2021), and in 2019 she was in the cast of True Detective. She’s continued to make regular TV appearances, and most recently provided voiceover work for the anime series Blood of Zeus (2020 to 2024).

Gummer married actor Benjamin Walker in 2011. They divorced in 2013. She married writer Mehar Sethi in 2018 and they had a son and daughter, but divorced this year.

When asked if it was intimidating to work with her legendary mom in Ricki and the Flash, Gummer joked, “Oh no, she’s not intimidating to me. Maybe I’m one of five people on the planet that wouldn’t be struck in that way, the rest being the other members of my family. But I’m intimidated by everyone else!”

Grace Gummer: A TV star with a genre twist

Grace Gummer was born in 1986. She made her screen debut in 1993, playing her mom’s character as a child in House of the Spirits. She was originally interested in art and fashion, working as a museum docent and a costume designer’s assistant, but switched to acting for the stage and devoted herself to drama full-time.

Gummer starred in the show Gigantic from 2010 to 2011. She then appeared in the films Larry Crowne (2011), Frances Ha (2012) and The Homesman (2014). She had a recurring role in The Newsroom from 2013 to 2014, and from 2014 to 2015 she was in the cast of the sci-fi series Extant.

Gummer’s role as an FBI agent in Mr. Robot (2016 to 2019) earned her acclaim, and in recent years, she’s been in the cast of the shows Dr. Death (2021), Let the Right One In (2022) and various installments of American Horror Story, including the 2024 season, Delicate.

In a case of meta-casting, Gummer played Nora Ephron, the journalist, screenwriter and director who worked with her mom on films like Heartburn and Julie & Julia, in the ’60s-set series Good Girls Revolt from 2015 to 2016.

Gummer married Tay Strathairn, the son of actor David Strathairn, in 2019, but they divorced the next year. Since 2021, she’s been married to musician, producer and DJ Mark Ronson, and they have two daughters.

When asked about her mom in a New York Times interview, Gummer said, “It used to bother me. I try not to think about it, or it could really get to me.”

Louisa Jacobson: From theater to ‘The Gilded Age’

Louisa Jacobson Gummer (who goes by Louisa Jacobson), the youngest of Meryl Streep’s kids, was born in 1991. Like her sisters, she’s an actress, and started on the stage.

Jacobson appeared in the unaired TV pilot Gone Hollywood in 2019. Since 2022, she’s starred in the period drama The Gilded Age, earning much praise for her role as a young woman navigating the complex social scene of 19th-century New York City.

Jacobson came out as gay in 2024, and is in a relationship with Anna Blundell, a creative producer who works in the fashion industry.

Jacobson’s star is on the rise, and she told The New York Times that her famous mom showed her the ups and downs of Hollywood, saying, “Because of the way I grew up, there are parts of the business that I know are difficult. And growing up with fame in my household, it provided us with a lot of privileges, but it also came with a lot of anxiety.”
