‘We Wanna Cross the Finish Line with Each Other’: Reba McEntire & Rex Linn Are Engaged!
After 35 years of knowing each other, Reba McEntire and Rex Linn are making it official.
It’s official: Reba McEntire and Rex Linn are engaged to be married! The couple, who began dating in 2020, have announced that they’re taking the next step to become husband and wife. After 5 years together—and 35 years of knowing each other—take a look at the incredible timeline of the happy couple’s relationship.
McEntire and Linn met decades before dating
Before the pair were an item, McEntire and Linn were just friends. The actors first crossed paths more than 30 years ago on the set of The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw in 1990. McEntire had a leading role as Burgundy Jones, while Linn was in a supporting role.
At the time, the actress was newly married to her manager, Narvel Blackstock, so their connection was only a friendly one. Both actors have shared they maintained contact over the years but it was never anything more.
In 2015, McEntire split from her husband and went on to date businessman Anthony “Skeeter” Lasuzzo from 2017 until 2019. A year later, McEntire began appearing on Young Sheldon, a show on which Linn was a recurring character. This marked the beginning of their romance.
“We kept in contact over the years, we both know the same people,” McEntire has shared. “So it was just like good friends getting back together and having dinner…then we started texting and talking on the telephone and getting to know each other better during the quarantine.”
A COVID-19 romance
During the COVID-19 pandemic, McEntire and Linn’s romance truly began to blossom. In January 2020, the two met up for dinner, and Linn shared a photo of the outing. However, it wasn’t confirmed whether they were dating or just catching up as old friends.
“In 2020 when Mama got sick, he called me,” McEntire shared (her mother passed away in March 2020). “We’d gotten to see each other before because we’re both on Young Sheldon. So starting in March of 2020, we just kept talking and visiting and finally got together, see each other in June. And we’ve been pretty much inseparable ever since.”
During the pandemic, things began heating up for the eventual couple—virtually.
“It was a very special relationship, us getting to know each other without any physical aspect to it at all,” McEntire recalled of the beginnings of their relationship. “We’d talk in the morning, we started ‘Coffee Camp’ while I was staying in Oklahoma.”
Linn added, “I was in California, she was in Tennessee and sometimes my ‘Coffee Camp’ started at 3 a.m. but man I have never missed one; I don’t wanna miss one.”
In October 2020, McEntire revealed they were dating, and in November, the couple made their red carpet debut at the Country Music Awards. In 2024, the two starred in the sitcom, Happy’s Place, together.
In late 2024 Linn spoke of his love for McEntire, saying “We are best friends. We wanna cross the finish line with each other in a relationship.” And now it’s official with their newly announced engagement!
