Ree Drummond’s eldest daughter, Alex Drummond Scott, is looking forward to welcoming her baby girl with husband Mauricio Scott. Little Sofia, who will make the Pioneer Woman star a first-time grandma, is expected to arrive at the beginning of the new year. An excited Ree previously said she wasn’t quite sure what Sofia would call her and her husband Ladd Drummond, but Alex recently took to Instagram to reveal what she and Mauricio are thinking! Keep reading for Ree’s grandma name and more details about Alex’s pregnancy!

Ree Drummond’s grandma nickname revealed!

During a recent “Ask me anything” session on Instagram, a fan asked Alex what her baby girl Sofia will call her grandparents. Alex shared that Mauricio’s mom will be Sofia’s Abuela, his dad and stepmom will be Pap and Kiki, respectively.

“We are thinking my parents will be ReeRee and Papa,” Alex said of Ree and Ladd

The heartwarming family tradition behind Ree’s grandma name

According to a recent Pioneer Woman blog post, Alex shares the sweet reason behind the likely nicknames.

“ReeRee is my mom’s nickname—my grandmother, Gee, still calls her that!,” the mom-to-be says. “I think it’s fun and it suits her. And Pa-Pa was my grandpa Chuck’s name, so it has a lot of family meaning.”

Of course, this is simply an idea for now, and the family will let official names unfold when Sofia arrives, Alex says.

More of the latest on Alex’s pregnancy

Another burning question Alex answered was her favorite (and least desirable) parts of pregnancy.

She said that she has loved feeling Sofia move around, growing a whole new appreciation for her body, feeling super strong positive emotions, even better hair and skin health! Her least favorite aspects, she said, are the food aversions she experienced during her first trimester, mood swings (especially “pregnancy rage”) and a nagging feeling of concern about Sofia’s wellbeing.

Ree Drummond offers motherly advice

But despite being in Oklahoma while Alex lives in Dallas, her mom is always there for her! She said she reaches out to Ree to ask her questions all the time. Whether it be calls, texts or getting to see each other in person, the mom and daughter often find themselves discussing pregnancy, birth and babies.

“It’s fun to pick her brain, and I feel like it’s fun for her to relive our baby days a little,” Alex wrote.

The holidays look a bit different this year

Sofia is expected to make her grand entrance into the world in early January, so this is the first year that Alex will spend Christmas in Dallas, in the home she and Mauricio have shared since they married in 2021. They’ll be heading to the Drummond family ranch in Oklahoma for the week of Thanksgiving, though!

Alex has also offered fans a glimpse at her happy home for the holidays, which boasts  quite a bit of inspiration from Ree’s decorating style. Personalized stockings and a Nativity scene are reminiscent of the classic decorations Alex cherishes from her childhood, but she and Mauricio have added their own touches too.

“When I was growing up, all the traditions made our childhood so special,” she says. “It’ll be fun once we have our daughter to see what traditions evolve.”

While both Alex and Ree opt for a variety of ornament colors, they disagree on the nature (or lack thereof) of the tree itself.

“My parents are very much pro real tree, so they kind of give us a hard time for having a fake one,” Alex says. “Once we have kids, we’ll probably make the switch—it’s a fun experience to pick out a tree and chop it down. But for now the ease of an artificial tree is hard to resist!”

Alex also carries on her mom’s tradition of baking cinnamon rolls and delivering them to family and friends. George, Alex and Mauricio’s golden retriever, has followed in the paw prints of the Drummond dogs by waiting for scraps by her side.
