On Sunday, Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, was reported missing in her home state of Arizona. Nancy, who is 84 years old, was seen last on Saturday evening, and her family members made the report on Sunday. News of Nancy’s disappearance has rattled her family, and Guthrie shared a statement on The Today Show: “On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at: 520-351-4900.”

In a press conference held Monday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed that Nancy’s home is being treated as a crime scene. Nancy Guthrie did not suffer from dementia or any sort of cognitive issues, and the sheriff further confirmed that there were signs in the home that indicated she did not leave on her own, though specifics were not revealed. Nancy does have some mobility issues, and Nanos shared that she wouldn’t have been able to walk 50 yards without assistance. He added that she requires daily medication for other health issues, and that if not taken within 24 hours, it could be fatal. Nancy is 5′ 5″ tall and weighs around 150 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

The Guthrie family first learned of Nancy’s disappearance when someone from her local church alerted them that she hadn’t shown up. Since this case is now being treated as a crime, the initial search and rescue efforts have been called off. With law enforcement doing all they can to bring Nancy home safely, the case is in constant development. As of Tuesday, TMZ reported that they received a ransom note demanding”a specific substantial amount of Bitcoin…the amount is in the millions, and the note demands the cryptocurrency be sent to a specific Bitcoin address.” The publication also stated that there was a deadline attached to the demand, and they have shared it with the Pima County Sheriff.

Over the years, Savannah has opened up about the close relationship she shares with her mom. In 2022, on The Today Show, Savannah got candid about how hard it was saying goodbye to her mom to pursue her dreams when she was just 21 chasing her first job in a newsroom in Montana. “My father died when I was entering my senior year in high school. I then lived at home all through college. We didn’t have money to afford the dorm. And that was thing one, but the other was that my sister and I really felt like we should stick with my mom and not leave her alone,” she revealed. “But when I moved to Butte, Montana, this was it. And it was really hard for me to leave her. And that’s when she said, ‘If you can’t leave me, then I didn’t do my job right, Savannah.’ She just gave me permission to go, you know?”

“She could have held onto me. It wouldn’t have taken very much. If she said, ‘Well, you know, Savannah, maybe you could find something a little closer to home,” she explained. “It’s not because she didn’t want me to stay. Of course she wanted me to stay. But she’s like, ‘I’m not going to stand in the way of your dreams. I’m going to tell you, go go go go go.'”

Savannah has also shared the love for her mother on social media over the years. “My mom Nancy is my heart and my everything and my model for what a mother should be,” she wrote in a birthday tribute to her on Instagram back in 2020.

As the search for Nancy continues, the Woman’s World community joins Savannah and her family in praying for her safe return. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.
