  • These two 'The Pitt' actors said goodbye to the hospital for the time being.

On June 7, Broadway’s best and brightest will come together under one roof to celebrate the 79th annual Tony Awards. This year, the most talented stars who have lit up the stage over the last year will be honored for their achievements with shows like Schmigadoon! and The Lost Boys leading the way this year in nominations. As we reflect back on this exciting year on Broadway, there’s one group in particular that’s stood out, and that’s the cast of The Pitt. Several members of The Pitt’s cast have taken to the stage in the last several months, and though they aren’t amongst this year’s lineup of Tony nominees, that doesn’t mean they haven’t left their mark.

Patrick Ball in ‘Becky Shaw’ on Broadway

Ball brings Dr. Frank Langdon to life on The Pitt, but while the cameras aren’t rolling, he’s enjoying sharing his talents with the theater. The actor is currently bringing the character of Andrew to life in the play Becky Shaw at The Hayes Theater (get tickets here!), and though it’s his Broadway debut, he’s familiar with this format. Becky Shaw dives into a blind date gone wrong and also stars Madeline Brewer, Alden Ehrenreich, Linda Emond and Lauren Patten.

“It feels like coming home to me,” Ball told Variety of working on this play. “I spent the last 15 years doing theater. I’ve been lucky to take a brief foray into television with The Pitt. My life has changed a lot over the past two years. Now to be back in a theater with an audience, this feels normal. This feels like what I know how to do. I don’t really know how to do red carpets.”

Isa Briones in ‘Just in Time’ on Broadway

Though most know Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos in The Pitt, she spent some time on stage in recent months when she starred as Connie Francis in Just in Time. The musical chronicles the life of Bobby Darrin, and though Isa is no longer bringing Connie Francis to life, she surely left her mark. Prior to her time on The Pitt, Briones actually had a successful career in musical theater, appearing in Hadestown.

Briones discussed the ways in which The Pitt is similar to theater in conversation with Backstage, saying, “It’s so theatrical. The way that we rehearse feels like theater. It feels like you’re doing eight-minute plays over and over again, because you have these long scenes that go from one end of the hospital to the other. It’s kind of like the coolest form of doing immersive theater, but you’re just doing it for your friends who are the crew.”
