For decades, you’ve seen Posh—we mean, Victoria Beckham, on stage, on the runway and posing on the red carpet.

The singer and fashion designer began her career in the public eye in 1994 as Posh Spice, one fifth of the girl group the Spice Girls. When she married English soccer player David Beckham in 1999, her fame only grew.

Later on, in 2008, the singer transitioned to fashion, beginning her own fashion label, Victoria Beckham Fashion. And as of 2025, she is now Lady Beckham, after her husband received knighthood. So, it’s safe to say that Victoria Beckham is frequently gracing the red carpet, whether for her solo ventures or alongside David Beckham.

But fans have noticed that while she is in the spotlight, Victoria Beckham never looks exactly thrilled to be on the carpet. Now, with the release of her three-part documentary on Netflix, Victoria Beckham, the singer and designer is explaining exactly why she looks so moody in front of the camera.

In her Netflix documentary, Beckham addresses the controversy surrounding her “miserable” looks on the red carpet. Despite people thinking she is actually upset, Beckham insists she’s not.

“Here’s a fact. I’ve looked miserable…for all these years,” Beckham said. “Because when we stand on the red carpet, this guy [David] has always gone on the left. Now I didn’t realize that when I smile, which I do, I smile from the left because if I smile from the right, I look unwell. So, consequently, I’m smiling on the inside but no one ever sees it, so that’s why I look so moody.”

The clip from the documentary was shared on TikTok, and fans have been chiming in with their thoughts about the revelation. One user wrote, “Classic Aries always trying to explain that we’re not actually upset,” while another said, “Victoria is valid, I have a side and I rebuke pictures of my bad side.”

So despite what the public sees, Victoria Beckham is smiling on the red carpet—her joy is just hidden by her husband, who she says always stands on her less-photogenic side. How relatable is that?
