In an Instagram post, Swift sent the public into a frenzy when she shared a photo of her Chiefs tight end beau down on one knee. The photos that followed in the carousel included the duo in a loving embrace and a close-up of her ring. The caption read: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” While the public is already buzzing about what the future holds for the pop superstar, with fans wanting to know everything from the style of dress she’ll be wearing to when they’ll be holding the big day, a certain group of people are perhaps most thrilled about the union: Taylor and Travis’ parents. Meet Andrea Swift
Swift’s fans know her mom, Andrea, plays an important role in her career, often seen on tour with her daughter and greeting fans, but it’s her support long before Taylor made it big that allowed the singer to flourish. Though Taylor spent her early life in Pennsylvania, the family eventually moved to Nashville in the hopes of finding more opportunities for their daughter.
Andrea, who had a career as a marketing executive prior to her daughter’s rise to fame, has battled cancer not once, but twice, and her daughter has spoken out about the impact it’s had on her over the years. “Both of my parents have had cancer, and my mom is now fighting her battle with it again,” Taylor wrote in Elle in 2019. “It’s taught me that there are real problems and then there’s everything else. My mom’s cancer is a real problem. I used to be so anxious about daily ups and downs. I give all of my worry, stress and prayers to real problems now.” Though Andrea has yet to comment publicly on her daughter’s engagement, we can imagine she’s thrilled that Taylor found her forever!
Meet Scott Swift
Taylor’s father Scott is equally dedicated to his daughter’s career, but before Taylor became an international superstar, he himself was quite the businessman. A former vice President at Merrill Lynch, Scott has been by his daughter’s side through the biggest moments of her career, including her tours over the years. During her recent appearance on the New Heights podcast alongside her now-fiancé, the singer got candid about her dad’s recent health struggles, as he underwent a quintuple bypass over the summer.
“He was the funniest he’s ever been—and he’s usually really funny,” she shared. “He didn’t know how many blockages he had, and I was like, ‘Dad, you had a quintuple bypass. You had five. That’s crazy. It’s more than we thought.’ And he’s like, ‘Well, you see, I come from a very competitive family.’”
Get to know Donna Kelce
Travis’ mom Donna has become something of a superstar herself, affectionately known as “Mama Kelce.” The mother of two accomplished athletes was an athlete long before Jason and Travis came along. When she was young, she won the Junior Olympics in track and field, showcasing where her two sons got their athletic abilities. Though she and Travis’ father, Ed, split after their sons got a bit older, there is no bad blood between the two. Donna hasn’t commented on her son’s engagement, but she has shared her thoughts on her soon-to-be daughter-in-law, telling People that the superstar is a “very talented woman.”
Introducing Ed Kelce
After enjoying a successful career in the steel industry, Travis’ father, Ed Kelce, who is mourning the recent passing of his girlfriend, Maureen Maguire, has been equally supportive of his son’s career and his relationship. Ed recently shared a few details about Travis and Taylor’s engagement in a radio interview with The Jimmy & Nath Show with Emma.
“Travis had these plans to do it the next weekend before flying out to Brazil. He was going to make a big production out of it some place, wanted to make it a bit special,” he shared. “I told him the same thing Scott told him: ‘Asking her is what’s going to make it special.’ It’s not where you do it. You know what I mean? You could do it on the side of the road. Scott adds, ‘Just get it done. Don’t worry about any special date. Just, you’re ready, you got the ring, go do it.’” And that he did!
