Get to know Carrie Underwood’s husband Mike Fisher

Underwood and Fisher—a former National Hockey League (NHL) star—met in 2008 after being introduced by a mutual friend in the country music world. A few months later, they had their first date on New Year’s Eve, with Underwood sharing in a past interview on The Howard Stern Show, “It was New Year’s Eve and there was a team party—and I actually invited myself to the team party. He moved slowly. He moved very slowly.”

Two years later, in 2010, Underwood and Fisher tied the knot in a private ceremony.

How Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher make their marriage work

Balancing two high-profile careers and family life isn’t easy, but Underwood and Fisher have found their rhythm.

“He knew what to expect,” Underwood told Glamour in 2012. “In Canada, he was a big celebrity, so he knows what it’s like living under a microscope. And he travels a lot, which is good for both of us. We’re both independent people, so we can’t have somebody around 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

In a separate interview on The 4:8 Men podcast in 2024, Fisher echoed similar thoughts, saying that forgiveness is key to making their marriage work.

“That’s really important—to apologize and ask for forgiveness,” he explained. “That’s something that Carrie and I have gotten a lot better at. We weren’t great at it for a while, and you just gotta get really comfortable saying sorry and owning it.”

Does Carrie Underwood have kids?

Underwood and Fisher have two sons, Isaiah and Jacob. The family lives in Nashville, far from the Hollywood spotlight, which Underwood says is essential for raising their boys.

“It’s important for me that home feels completely different from my career,” she shared on a recent episode of SiriusXM’s Front Row. “We have definitely established that. My kids see me. We get up, we take them to school, we make breakfast and pack lunches.”

“It’s so wonderful,” Underwood continued. “I love performing. I love singing. I love writing. I love being creative. Singing is definitely one of my happy places, but the world that that takes you to is just not real. More than anything, for my family, I want them to know that.”

You’ve given your teammates and the game your all for so many years… you’ve worked so hard and made us all so proud! Isaiah and I love you so much and are so excited to be able to have you home a lot more.”
