Each year, dozens of women from all over the world gather in the hopes of being crowned Miss Universe. The iconic beauty pageant kicked off in 1952 and over the years, has grown far beyond its humble start. This year’s Miss Universe competition will celebrate women from more than 100 countries as they gather in Bangkok, Thailand, and compete for the title. While the main competition will take place on Friday, November 21, the preliminary competition has already begun, and the women after the crown have stolen hearts in the popular costume showcase. The National Costume Show allows competitors to highlight their culture in a creative and elaborate display, and seeing these women bring their all was most definitely a treat! Here, a look at the National Costume Show Miss Universe highlights. 

Miss USA—Audrey Eckert

Audrey Eckert, the 23-year-old from Nebraska, shined in The National Costume Show as she paid tribute to the United States with an ornate bald eagle costume, honoring the country’s national bird. “From the handcrafted eagle headpiece and sweeping wings that mirror our country’s vast landscapes, to the beadwork and feathers honoring Indigenous craftsmanship, every detail reflects resilience, courage and pride,” wrote the Miss USA Instagram account in a post celebrating her costume

Miss Sweden—Daniella Lundqvist

Daniella Lundqvist, 26, who represented Sweden, honored beloved Swedish band ABBA with her vibrant and colorful ensemble. The band’s music has been celebrated worldwide, and Lundqvist’s costume was a lovely tribute to their musical contributions to the world!

Miss Bonaire—Nicole Peiliker Visser

In the Miss Universe National Costume Show, Nicole Peiliker Visser, 42, a mother of four, represented Bonaire, an island in the Dutch Caribbean, and its marine life with an ensemble adorned with coral embellishments, sea creatures and other visual representations of her beautiful home. 

Miss Egypt—Sabrina Maged

The details on this one took our breath away! Miss Egypt, Sabrina Maged, is just 23 years old, but she’s certainly holding her own amongst her competitors. In this exciting preliminary challenge, she represented her home country with a costume that dazzled with its bright tones and shimmer. “It’s amazing when people scream your name and your country. It’s just so amazing. It’s so perfect, and makes me so proud of it,” she shared in a TikTok video posted by Miss Universe. 

Miss Estonia—Brigitta Schaback

Miss Estonia, Brigitta Schaback, is 28 years old and brought her all when it came time to compete in the costume competition. Sporting an enormous headpiece that paid homage to her country’s national animal, the wolf, this fierce look was certainly a sight to see. 

Miss Venezuela—Stephany Adriana Abasali

Similar to Miss Bonaire, Miss Venezuela, 25-year-old Stephany Adriana Abasali, paid homage to her country’s rich marine life. Her sparkling suit was nothing short of stunning and toward the bottom, Venezuela’s stunning sea life was on full display. 

Miss Paraguay—Yanina Magali Anahi Gomez Ojeda

Yanina Magali Anahi Gomez Ojeda, the 28-year-old Miss Paraguay, wore a sparkling ensemble that served to honor the firefly, a symbol of hope in Paraguay that is now endangered. The costume glowed with purpose, reminding us that the smallest creatures can carry the biggest messages.
