Fellow Ozians, it’s time to put on your ruby slippers and head down the yellow brick road because MeTV is officially going to be presenting The Wizard of Oz. It will be the channel’s first time airing the award-winning musical starring Judy Garland and we have everything you need to know about it below.

What to know about ‘The Wizard of Oz’ on MeTV

During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, MeTV opened up about their Oz special, which was announced in February of this year as part of their BOO-nanza festivities. The panel was moderated by actor, podcaster, collector and former Collector’s Call guest Ralph Garman and had Collector’s Call host Lisa Whelchel, Weigel Broadcasting’s Vice Chairman Neal Sabin and Collector’s Call experts Rob and Jennifer Klein and Matt Weinhold on it.

“Being part of San Diego Comic-Con for our very first Collector’s Call panel, and celebrating the nostalgia of bringing back family television events like The Wizard of Oz, was so much fun,” Whelchel said in a statement obtained by Woman’s World. “I’m always fascinated by collectors and the passion they have for the things they treasure. Meeting fans during the autograph session was especially meaningful, and experiencing the excitement and energy of the Comic-Con floor in person was truly unforgettable.”

As for what MeTV will be specifically featured during this event, they revealed that they plan to air The Wizard of Oz during a broadcast premiere that will be hosted by Whelchel. Along with that, they will air “The Wonderful World of Oz,” original vignettes that reveal rare stories, shocking details and showcase museum items from the film itself as well as a special Oz-themed episode of Collector’s Call that will feature Oz collector Tori Calamito, one of the nation’s most sought-after Wizard of Oz experts and item collectors. She currently has a first edition Oz book, costumes from the hit Broadway musical Wicked—which was recently turned into a two-part blockbuster movie starring Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey—and other must-see collectible Oz-themed items.

When will ‘The Wizard of Oz’ air on MeTV ?

The Wizard of Oz does not have a specific airing time on MeTV yet. We just know it will happen in October and the network recommends checking here to learn when exactly it will be available to watch in your area.

The Wizard of Oz is more than a movie, it is a shared American experience that was defined by the annual tradition of gathering around the television set,” Neal Sabin, vice-chairman of Weigel Broadcasting said in a statement in February of this year. “We are thrilled to bring the film back to broadcast television this October on MeTV. It will be presented without any edits and will be surrounded by surprises we will announce later, making the film the centerpiece of our expanded annual MeTV Halloween BOO-Nanza programming event.”
