Taylor Swift’s Childhood Cowgirl Outfit Sparked a Nostalgic Discovery Women Everywhere Shared Too
How an iconic 90s cowgirl outfit connects us to Taylor Swift, Zendaya, and 'Toy Story'
Key Takeaways
- A viral childhood video reveals Taylor Swift and Zendaya wore the same 90s cowgirl outfit.
- Women everywhere are digging up old photos to discover they twinned with the famous superstars.
- The sweet fashion coincidence perfectly mirrors the universal, nostalgic themes of Toy Story 5.
I gasped out loud when Taylor Swift shared a home video from her childhood wearing an adorable cowgirl outfit to celebrate her song in the new Toy Story movie. Because I had the exact same outfit. And as it turns out, so did many other women — including Zendaya.
The second Taylor Swift shared the video, I immediately started frantically scrolling through thousands of photos on my phone. I was on a one-track-mind mission.
A few minutes later, I found it.

There I was as a little girl, grinning from ear to ear in the exact same denim and bandana printed skirt and white t-shirt featuring a set of bandana embroidered boots.
Little me was twinning with Taylor Swift.
Of all the invisible strings that could have connected us, who would’ve guessed it would be a 1990s cowgirl-themed getup?
Naturally, I had to post the side-by-side.
Then something magical happened
My best friend texted me a photo of herself wearing the very same outfit as a little girl. Then TikTok started serving me video after video of people discovering that Zendaya had worn it too. Suddenly, it seemed like everyone had once been that little cowgirl.

Apparently, an entire generation shared the same childhood wardrobe.
It made me laugh at first. But after seeing Toy Story 5, it also made me think.
What Toy Story teaches us about our shared childhood
Without spoiling any key points, the newest movie is a sweet reminder that childhood is something we all have in common. The toys may be different and our lives take us in different directions. But the wonder and the belief in adventure is universal.
It’s easy to look at people like Taylor Swift or Zendaya and see stadium tours, red carpets and magazine covers. But before any of that, they were just little girls playing dress-up, dreaming big and creating imaginary worlds — just like Toy Story’s sweet little Bonnie and the rest of us.
The invisible string connecting us all
That old cowgirl outfit suddenly felt like something sacred.
It became a reminder that before we grew up, we all started in the same place. We had imaginations and big dreams.
This is why Toy Story has endured for generations. It’s a reminder of how simple life once was, but that growing up doesn’t erase the playful child we used to be.
And apparently, for quite a few of us, that child was wearing the exact same cowgirl outfit — and it can still be purchased today at Boot Barn.
So go ahead and dig out your old photos and old toys. Share them with your kids or grandkids. Remind yourself that kid inside you who used to love to play is still in there. She’s just wearing a different outfit these days.
