These Rare Pics From the ‘Clueless’ Beach Premiere Are Peak ’90s Nostalgia—Cher Would Approve!
When the beloved teen film premiered in 1995, the stars hobnobbed with the 'Baywatch' cast and MTV VJs
It’s hard to believe it, but the 1995 teen movie Clueless is celebrating its 30th anniversary this summer. Written and directed by Amy Heckerling, the film tells the story of Cher (Alicia Silverstone) a shallow rich girl who sets out to give the new girl in school, Tai (the dearly missed Brittany Murphy), a makeover, all while navigating the ups and downs of teen life and ultimately developing feelings for her handsome ex-stepbrother, Josh (Paul Rudd). The colorful comedy remains beloved by multiple generations of viewers thanks to its charismatic young cast, fabulous fashions and hilarious dialogue, and it’s vibrant as ever three decades after it was released.
In honor of the milestone anniversary coming up on July 19, we’re taking a look back at the film’s ultra-’90s premiere. Rather than the typical red carpet affair, the premiere took place on a Malibu beach and featured a performance from the all-woman alt-rock band Luscious Jackson, who were featured on the movie’s soundtrack. Read on to go back to 1995 with photos and MTV clips from the film’s playfully offbeat debut.
