Get ready to be captivated — once again — by the faith, emotion and moving melodies of Christian favorites, MercyMe. The beloved band’s long‑awaited 12th studio album, Wonder & Awe, is out now!

“One of the struggles within today’s church is the lack of awe,” says lead singer Bart Millard about the project. “Having access to virtually everything within the palm of our hands, where’s the joy in being surprised? Those moments that take our breath away.  This album reflects where I am right now…longing for wonder and awe — actively seeking the wonder of God and learning not to take it for granted. We’re so excited to finally share it, and we hope it brings even a fraction of the joy and excitement it’s brought us.”

The new record comes with a powerful title that captures the essence of what we so desperately need in our everyday lives — a renewed sense of awe. This album promises to offer listeners both an emotional lifeline and a fresh, toe-tapping experience.

From humble beginnings to Christian stardom

MercyMe began in the sanctuary of Henderson Hills Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma, where Bart Millard, pianist Jim Bryson and guitarist Michael Scheuchzer formed the band inspired by God’s call on their life. They moved from Nashville to Dallas before setting roots in Greenville, Texas, and eventually going on to change Christian music forever.

Their name, “MercyMe,” actually came from a sweet comment from Millard’s grandmother, who once asked him,“Well, mercy me, why don’t you get a real job?” And so the band was formed with heart, humor, faith and family.

The song that touched the masses

MercyMe’s big break came with the release of their debut major-label album, Almost There, in 2001. Its lead single, “I Can Only Imagine,” instantly became a hit, and soared to become the first Christian single ever to go platinum — eventually reaching quadruple‑platinum status and becoming the best‑selling Christian song of all time. This tear‑jerking ballad crossed over into mainstream charts and hearts. The song served as the inspiration for the 2018 heart-tugging film, I Can Only Imagine — starring Dennis Quaid — which follows the rise of MercyMe and the life of Millard.

MercyMe’s catalog of uplifting hits

From there, the band’s star only rose. Their next albums — Spoken For (2002) and Undone (2004) — delivered hits “Here With Me” and “Word of God Speak,” which ruled the Christian charts for a record 22 weeks.

They continued churning out fan-favorite albums like Coming Up to Breathe (2006), All That Is Within Me (2007), and The Generous Mr. Lovewell (2010). Through the 2010s and early 2020s, MercyMe continued to pour their hearts into music, with releases like Lifer (2017), Inhale (Exhale) (2021), and Always Only Jesus (2022). Each album is full of tunes that turned hearts to God and offered hope to listeners.
