If Tom Brady can un-retire, then why can’t Paul Simon?! On February 18, the 83-year-old singer, known as being half of the famed duo Simon & Garfunkel, took to social media to share that he would be returning to the stage once again—shocking fans after he announced back in 2018 that he would be retiring from touring. Though the singer took a step back from touring seven years ago, that didn’t mean he quit making music. Back in 2023, he put out the album Seven Psalms, and fans can expect to hear Simon bring to life these tracks on this exciting new venture. Here, everything we know about the upcoming Paul Simon tour.

Paul Simon announces he’s heading back out on tour

In a post shared to his Instagram, Simon revealed that he would be hitting the stage on the “A Quiet Celebration” Tour, which kicks off on April 4 in New Orleans, LA. The tour will then proceed throughout the spring and summer, concluding on August 3 in Seattle, WA. Throughout the tour, he will be hitting cities ranging from Austin, TX to Chicago, IL to New York.

And fans of Simon are thrilled at the chance to see the singer after they thought they’d never get the chance again! “I have had the lousiest week, and today is my birthday. I don’t even have tickets, but it’s the best birthday news ever,” wrote an Instagram user on his announcement post. “I haven’t been to a concert in 30 years! But the one show…the one person on my bucket list to see is YOU—The one and only Paul Simon!,” exclaimed another excited fan! And their thrill is certainly warranted—after all, the world thought they’d seen the last of Paul Simon on stage back when he embarked on his farewell tour!

Why did Paul Simon retire from touring?

It was in 2018 when Paul Simon announced we’d be seeing the last of him on stage in a statement. “I love making music, my voice is still strong, and my band is a tight, extraordinary group of gifted musicians. I think about music constantly,” he wrote. “Sadly, we lost our lead guitarist and my friend of 30 years, Vincent N’guini, who died last December. His loss is not the only reason I’ve decided to stop touring, but it is a contributing factor. Mostly, though, I feel the travel and time away from my wife and family takes a toll that detracts from the joy of playing.”

Another factor that contributed to Simon avoiding touring was hearing loss in his left ear, which he detailed in a 2023 interview with The Times. “Quite suddenly I lost most of the hearing in my left ear, and nobody has an explanation for it. So everything became more difficult. My reaction to that was frustration and annoyance; not quite anger yet, because I thought it would pass, it would repair itself.”

Luckily, Simon hasn’t let this deter him as he prepares for “A Quiet Celebration” kicking off in the spring—You won’t want to miss it!
