The boys are back in Beantown—and this time, they’re planting roots. After that jaw-dropping December cliffhanger left fans reeling, Boston Blue is finally returning with new episodes that promise answers, fallout and plenty of high-stakes drama.

The first season of the hit police drama, a spinoff of Blue Bloods, shifts the action from New York to Massachusetts as Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) trades the NYPD for a fresh start with the Boston Police Department. Set against the city’s historic neighborhoods, waterfront districts and tight-knit communities, Boston Blue explores how a seasoned detective adjusts to a new badge, a new partner and a department with its own traditions—and tensions.

The midseason trailer has officially dropped, confirming what many suspected: Danny’s new role as a Boston detective is permanent. As he navigates complex cases and internal politics, veteran detectives and rookie cops alike are forced to confront the ripple effects of the explosive winter finale.

Below, catch the trailer for the upcoming episodes and get a glimpse of what’s changed—and what’s about to blow up—since you last saw the squad. And if you haven’t watched the midseason finale, consider this your spoiler warning: stream it on CBS or Paramount+.

Danny is officially a Boston detective

The midseason finale revealed Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner)—who is the brother of Danny’s partner Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green)—in a very compromising position: a gun in his hands, blood on his shirt and a dead man by his feet. In an effort to protect Jonah, who has become like a brother to Danny’s son Sean (Mika Amonsen), Danny considers extending his stay in Boston.

The only reason Danny would ever move to Boston was for family,” creator Brandon Sonnier confirmed. “We felt like this midseason finale was the moment for him to declare, ‘I’m a part of this family now, too.’ That declaration—‘I’m going to take this on, I’m going to get to the bottom of this, I’m going to need that badge so I can run lead here’—is Danny planting his flag with the Silvers. It’s him saying, ‘I’m part of your family now. Let’s go.’”

Is Jonah guilty of murder?

The alleged crime comes on the heels of Jonah’s struggle to accept that his father’s killer was released from prison. Now that the killer is dead, Jonah looks guilty. The creators of Boston Blue discussed his downward spiral during the finale.

Throughout that episode, we’ve seen Jonah go on an emotional journey spurred by the murder of his father, by decisions his mother made, by advice from his grandfather,” Sonnier said. “It involves the entire family. But when you get down to that moment, Jonah was alone, and no one was really there to see what happened until the last minute when Sean came in. I do wonder: How mad was he? How angry is he in that moment? What is he capable of? And what really happened?”

As for whether he really committed the crime? You’ll have to tune into new episodes

Blue Bloods favorite returns

The trailer for the upcoming episodes didn’t just address concerns from the finale—it also confirmed the return of Blue Bloods veteran, Len Cariou as Henry “Pop” Reagan. Despite his longtime retirement from the NYPD, Pop is now in Boston to help out his grandson

Cariou’s character appears next to Danny in the trailer, ready to dive into action asking, “So, what do we got?” similar to how Danny approaches his cases. The actor will be reprising his role as former Police Commissioner Henry Reagan in Season 1 Episode 13 of Boston Blue, titled “Beautiful Broken Things,” and it will air on April 13.

Be sure to tune into Boston Blue’s midseason premiere on Friday, February 27, 2026, only on CBS and the next day on Paramount+.
